PIE
Dan: I did the same registry changes again for PIE and follow everything step by step. After I did this my PIE would not work again. I previously had to re-boot my machine from scratch to get to work. Si I believe there is some system issues in some machines.

SD mem card can wear out!
I did the reg. mod to allow my IE temp dir to live on the SD card.
Two concerns I think:
1) My 'My eBay' page takes 1 min 44 seconds to load, with good signal bandwidth. Seems a bit slow, I wonder if it's all the thrashing IE does with files on the SLOWER sd card?
2) SD cards wear out. That's right. It's not like the main memory, it's flash memort, with a limited number of read write cycles. OK for a digital camera, but how about constant file reads and writes, like what IE does?
How about the new SD cards, coming in Nov, they are 4 times as fast as the current cards ( 2.5 meg/sec old, 9 meg/sec new )

Here's my results with full signal bars and PIE:
Cleared cache
==========
26 seconds Ebay Login page
1:06 seconds My Ebay page
With Ebay in cache
=============
21 seconds Ebay Login page
52 seconds My Ebay page
I think everything eventually wears out.. Just make backup's to your desktop often and you'll be ready for anything.

Dan,
Sounds about the same as my times, I must have more items on my watch list or something.
I'll bet it goes a bit faster yet, if all those cached files were being written to fast ram, and not the sd card.
I noticed that my camera is a lot slower too, since I moved it's picture dir to the sd card.
I guess we can all by the new SD cards with 9 meg a sec SUSTAINED xfer rate in the near future.

Turning off SS_Logging
By default, PocketPC writes debug logs to a file in your \Windows\ folder called SS_Log, and continues with SS_OldLog and so forth once it's hit the limit. This is a waste of space, and only needed for debugging purposes. On a brand new hard reset, the SS_Log size is 6K, and as you use your device it grows larger and makes multiple SS_Log files. On my old backup, it grew to 200K+ and started a new 40k log file. This can be turned off or redirected to save some main memory space.
Turn it off or redirect it by going into your Registry editor, goto:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > AirPrime > SS_Log
Redirecting it:
Tap on "Default Log File" and change the \Windows\ to \Storage Card\
Turning off the log
Tap on "Filter - Log to File" and change it from 1 to 0
Soft-Reset, and delete the SS_Log file in your \Windows\ folder.

Hey Marc,
I've been so bored lately that I've been restoring my G1000 everytime it hard-resets just to play with it. Can you tell me if you have a file called "SSCE10.DLL" in your \Windows\ folder? It's about 1 meg, and I was able to get it redirected to the storage card, but I can't seem to figure out what program installed that file and it's not there after a hard reset.
Thanks,
Dan
