Dan: I did the same registry changes again for PIE and follow everything step by step. After I did this my PIE would not work again. I previously had to re-boot my machine from scratch to get to work. Si I believe there is some system issues in some machines.
I did the reg. mod to allow my IE temp dir to live on the SD card.
Two concerns I think:
1) My 'My eBay' page takes 1 min 44 seconds to load, with good signal bandwidth. Seems a bit slow, I wonder if it's all the thrashing IE does with files on the SLOWER sd card?
2) SD cards wear out. That's right. It's not like the main memory, it's flash memort, with a limited number of read write cycles. OK for a digital camera, but how about constant file reads and writes, like what IE does?
How about the new SD cards, coming in Nov, they are 4 times as fast as the current cards ( 2.5 meg/sec old, 9 meg/sec new )
Dan,
Sounds about the same as my times, I must have more items on my watch list or something.
I'll bet it goes a bit faster yet, if all those cached files were being written to fast ram, and not the sd card.
I noticed that my camera is a lot slower too, since I moved it's picture dir to the sd card.
I guess we can all by the new SD cards with 9 meg a sec SUSTAINED xfer rate in the near future.

I took all your recomendations and they all worked perfect. I am also running Omega's battery and Program bar I moved thier DLLs to the SD card also doing the appropriate Reg. changes. I now have 3.84 storage and 16.78 program memory available
By default, PocketPC writes debug logs to a file in your \Windows\ folder called SS_Log, and continues with SS_OldLog and so forth once it's hit the limit. This is a waste of space, and only needed for debugging purposes. On a brand new hard reset, the SS_Log size is 6K, and as you use your device it grows larger and makes multiple SS_Log files. On my old backup, it grew to 200K+ and started a new 40k log file. This can be turned off or redirected to save some main memory space.
Turn it off or redirect it by going into your Registry editor, goto:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > AirPrime > SS_Log
Redirecting it:
Tap on "Default Log File" and change the \Windows\ to \Storage Card\
Turning off the log
Tap on "Filter - Log to File" and change it from 1 to 0
Soft-Reset, and delete the SS_Log file in your \Windows\ folder.
I've been so bored lately that I've been restoring my G1000 everytime it hard-resets just to play with it. Can you tell me if you have a file called "SSCE10.DLL" in your \Windows\ folder? It's about 1 meg, and I was able to get it redirected to the storage card, but I can't seem to figure out what program installed that file and it's not there after a hard reset.

SD cards wear out, but a reformat should get them working again 100% of the time.
I know it's hard to beleive, but all of the newer flash comes with a lifetime warranty and they claim that they're good for unlimited writes, the problem is that flash is higly vulnerable to EM radiation, even more so the kind that our phones produce. Eventually, just the radiation will corrupt the files on the SD given enough time to wear down the data stored on the card -- the SD card slot on the G1000 is NOT very well shielded (I just had mine apart yesterday...).
Anyhow.. I don't expect a 128mb chunk of flash to have perfect data integrety, just as I don't expect a hard disk or floppy drive to have the same. Multiple backups to machines, SD, etc, are required if you dont want to worry about data loss. My home machine has a raid 1 setup and my work machine has a 0+1 for these reasons.

[Edit Below]
A little note: I work for a company that has put in extensive time modifiying PC's to boot from flash to maintain high availability -- I have put flash memory to its limits on numerous occasions.
It wasn't listed in Remover. If it's related to a database, it's probably Cash Organizer then. I'll have to uninstall it make sure. If it is Cash Organizer and you have it installed, you can save 1.4 megs of Main Memory by moving it to your storage card.
First, close Pocket Internet Explorer and move your "Temporary Internet Files\" folder and its subfolders from the "\Windows\" folder to the "\Storage Card\" folder.
When I try and do this it gives me this message.
cannot move index there has been a sharing violition the source or destination file may be in use? what am I doing wrong?

Okay, what you can do is, first create a "\Temporary Internet Files\" on your storage card.
In your registry editor, make the appropiate changes of redirecting the \Windows\ folder to the \Storage Card\ folder. After you done making the changes in the registry.. Soft Reset.
Then move the old directory files over to the new storage card folder. This step might not be neccessary since I think PIE creates a new index file anyway.

I did this but I still cannot move the file over? I did a soft reset and the internet works so should I just delete the file of my g1000?
