How to set your ring tone on your Windows Powered Pocket PC Phone Edition
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Setting your ring tone on your Pocket PC is easy! After installing the Ring Tone packs, follow the instructions below:
Tap Start.
Tap Settings.
Tap the Phone icon.
The Ring Tone drop-down box in the middle of the screen displays all of the ring tones currently loaded on your Pocket PC.
Tap on a ring tone in the drop-down.
Tap OK.
You will now use the new ring tone you selected.
Hint: If you have added new ring tones onto the device while the phone settings were open, the new ring tones may not appear in the list until you close the phone settings and open it again.
How to add custom ring tones on to your device:
With the Pocket PC devices you can add your own custom ring tones for ultimate customizability! The Pocket PC supports playback of rich .wav files, so you can use any .wav file as a ring tone. To add a custom ring tone to your device, follow the instructions below:
Connect your Pocket PC device to your desktop PC using Activesync.
Using the Activesync explore feature, copy your .wav file to the \My Device\Windows\rings directory on your device.
Your .wav file can now be selected as a ring tone for your device from the Phone Settings ring tone drop-down (see instructions above)
Your phone will now ring with your custom ring tone!
Hint: You can record a custom ring tone on your device using your devices Voice Recording feature included in the Pocket PC notes application. The note application saves voice recordings as .wav files. Simply, make a voice recording on your device and copy that recording from the \My Device\My Documents directory to the \My Device\Windows\Rings directory.

Thanks for the tip, Falconier!
Can I copy the custom ring tone and transfer it within the G1000? If so, how do I do that? Or do I need to transfer them in my PC Activesynch program?
Originally posted by Falconier You can copy and paste directly to the folder, go to "Explore" on active synch and look for the folder with the ringtones
so have you or anyone else tried to delet the ringers or are they permanent?
Hmmm...I don't think deleting these kinds of files is a good practice unless absolutely necessary. I used to have a Treo, and deleting ringers was a BIG mistake. Of course, the Treo is no G1000...
Luckily, there's plenty of room for custom ringtones without deleting the factory ringers - I installed 10 more, and there's no memory conflict. For what it's worth, I'd leave them alone and simply download something you like and use it!
how did you reroute your ringers to the sd card? i went into the windows folder on the ppc device and the folder named "rings" i dragged it to the storage card. is that where the new user ringtones will be stored?
i know some of you have redirected your personal ringers to your sd card...
I would like to setup Mp3's as my ringers because the default ringers are not very loud at all. Does anyone know how to make that possible without using a 3rd party application?
Thanks,
-cse

You need to change the Storage Location in the Registry to point at the new location on the storage card. I forget where right now but if you search the registry for the original location you should find it quickly.
Also ... I don't think MP3s will play any louder even if you can get them to play as ringtones. My advice is to edit the wav file on the PC and compress the sound so it will seem louder. You may need to try it a few times until it sounds ok.
I've been reading most of your posts, just not doing much posting myself. My "day" job has gotten really busy, and I'm expanding my Kung Fu school to 5 nights a week - so I just haven't had as much free time...
I've been using my Treo 600 almost exclusively, but the past couple of days have gone back to the G1000 for a little brush up. Ironically, it was the ring tones that brought me back, as my WAV files on the G1000 are lifts from actual TV shows and are far superior to the stuff you can download for the Treo.
If the G1000 would automatically check 3 different email accounts, I'd migrate back - but since it only checks one (automatically) it's just doesn't suit my needs. If anybody knows of a program like Snapper Mail, which would replace the pocket explorer mail program I'm all ears...or fingers. I've heard tell of a couple of such programs, but the seemed extremely complicated to set up - and I'm mostly (deep breath) a MAC guy.
Keep up all the good work - I really appreciate all your tips and tales!
Cheers!
Sifu Z.

you have to convert your mp3's into wav files. this can be done with programs such as audacity. then put the wav files in the Windows/Rings folder on your G. it should be there when you go to change the rings.
Remember that a 5 MB song will turn into a huge wav file, more than the G can handle unless you have an SD card. If I were you, I'd find a clip of the song on the Barnes and Nobles website or something like that and then change that to wav. it'll be a lot smaller.
