Tinkering with my G, I came across an odd bootscreen. Somehow the G will Download an image of some sort (eeprom, Sprint program image or something). Flip over your G and with your thumb hold the
volume down button AND with your middle finger (any will do I guess) hold the Fonix voice button on the opposite side, then hit reset with your stylus holding them down til boot.
There's no need to back up because it didn't interfere with my setup at all.
Always back up anyway just in case.
Hold the buttons til your dash comes up and you should see a prompt at the bottom of your scree that says:
Image Download via PPFS
Now, if you plug in your USB jack it will change over to:
Begin download over USB now.
Any ideas on what this could be about? Is it a usable exploit for someone who knows what they are doing? What I could find on PPFS was also at M$'s MSDN here
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/wcepb40/html/pbconPPFS.asp saying:
The Parallel Port File System (PPFS) service provides a means for a target device to access files on a development workstation. With PPFS, if the file loader on the target device cannot find a file on the target device, the file loader sends a message over KITL to Platform Manager requesting the file from the development workstation. KITL looks for the file in the release directory. The release directory is the directory on the development workstation containing the OS image from which the target device was booted.
The PPFS file service was originally implemented over a parallel port, but the service now operates over any KITL connection.
Any ideas?
