Went from G1000 to PPC 6700 in Sprint Store!!!
First off, I'm still in shock. But I'm going to try to tell you guys the story. It's a long one. Bare with me... I bought my G off Fleabay around X-Mas. It was a good buy for me at $150.00 to get me in the PDA game and a hell of an upgrade from my Toshiba VM 4050. That brings me to this week. I have been having problems with my G's wireless radio turning off by itself and not coming back on. Consequently, I can't make or recieve calls when it's like that. I have the total protection insurance so I decide to take it to a Sprint Store to see if they can fix it. They couldn't fix it. They told me they didn't have a comparable phone to replace it with so they would order a 6600 and it would be in by Thursday. At least they didn't tell me to call LockLine. I said, "OK, they would be great." Then, as they checked the computer, they saw that there were no 6600's at the warehouse and they wouldn't know when there would be any. They said they'd call me when one was available. Meanwhile, I'm stuck with my G that only makes calls when it feels like it. They told me I could have a Treo (I wasn't biting) or they would've given me a 6700 if they had any in stock (I didn't believe they would if they did). They said to try another store to see if they had a 6600 or 6700 in stock. I chose to do that rather than just wait. I chose the store I wanted to go to that evening and called them 10 minutes before close and asked if they had any PPC 6700's in stock. They told me yes. OK...this is the next day (today) and I get to the store right as its opening. I go through the song-and-dance of them checking my G up and down. They can't fix it either. They give me the same story...we can only give you a Treo or a 6600, there aren't any 6600's at the factory...we don't have any 6700's (which I know is a lie). I demand to speak to a manager. He tries the same story until I let him have it. I sternly, but camly, told him that it was unacceptable that Sprint would let a customer go without a phone and no indication of when I would get a phone rather than make the necessary accomodations and give me a comparable phone on site like the insurance states. Every day my phone can't ring, I'm losing money (as I have my own business). He asks for my G and goes into the back for like 10 minutes and comes back with a 6700 box. He said, "I didn't know these were back there, it looks like someone bought this one and returned it the same day. We must've just got it in." Yeah, right.
The moral(s) of the story is to be persistent. Eventually you'll talk to someone who will be willing to help you. Make it be known that you are unhappy and that it is their responsibility to make you happy. Second, Sprint does not want to give up it's in-store stock to replace your old phone even though that should be the thing to do in cases like this. They would rather let you be without a phone for an indefinate period of time. Or even lie about their stock. I was prepared to call Sprint customer service and complain about the store and I'm sure eventually someone would have helped me there, too, if not with a 6700, at least a 6600.
With that being said, I'd like to give a moment of silence for my G1000.......... Amen.
