Do I need to switch on my mini usb port?

Hello,

I picked up a retractable mini usb cable to use with my g1000 but when I plug it in, neither the phone, nor the PC do anything. The battery doesn't charge either. Does the usb port need to be switched on or something?

Thanks

Carl

You can't actually power the phone through the USB port. You can charge it through the circular DC outlet or through the cradle pinouts, but not through the usb. It should sync though (but I don't use a USB hub, so can't help you there...)

Well, it sounds like he's just using a straight USB-to-miniUSB connection. That doesn't charge the phone. If you have the specific minisync cable that connects through the cradle pins, yeah, that'll charge the phone.

hmm i have not seen a retractable mini usb cable other than the ppc syncs and those of the sort. i think this guy has a charger/sync cable but either his port on the phone is busted or the cable is faulty. we need more info:

is the phone new or used?

or you the original owner?

has this alwasy happend since you had this cable?

can the phone charge in the cradle?

I have a generic retractable usb to mini usb cable (staples $9) and it will only sync, no charging.
