Hey everyone.. Well, my perfect G1000 (not one scratch, I hardly use it) is broken. I went to sync it and the USB plug on it is very loose. I went to Sprint and they said there was nothing they can do to help me other than sell me a new phone. I'm not interested in spending a ton of money. The people at Sprint tried to convince me it was because of my "charging" habits. But, I find that hard to believe because if you bring up my sprint account on this line, there are no minutes used for the past 3 months.. Why?? Because I dont use the phone!!! The one time I try to use it, it breaks...
What are my options?? How and who would I send this to get it fixed?? How much would it cost to re-soldier on the USB connection??

does it give you an error when you try to sync? which version of activesync are you using?
I just tried to sync it on the dock and the computer isnt even seeing it and active sync wont pop up on the phone.. Its like it doesnt even know its on the dock. Now, if both mini USB and the dock arent working, wouldnt that signal a factory defect to you?? I know the mini USB isnt working because its phsyically broken but you would think atleast the dock would work..
It does charge while on the dock though.. No error messages and the latest version of active sync.. 3.8 maybe??
hmm... yeah maybe since the mini usb is damaged, it may prevent the main conector from working...perhaps they are in series... i would not call it a defect though...
Ok, well maybe you can help me with this. I'll more than likely buy another PDA phone.. Which of the phones can I use as a modem with my laptop? I'm aware Sprint doesnt like this if you over use it but I only use it to sync my Outlook email when I'm on the road..
I cannot sync via the min-usb or the dock and I do not have insurance so I sync via infrared port. It's very slow, but it works. I use a USB/IR port adapter and point it twords the G. - Good luck.
I forgot to include that IR sync does not happen automatically like the USBs.
Once you get the G in the IR path you must select ActiveSync > Tools > Connect via IR. Sometimes you have to do this more than once until the PC connects but it will work.
Thanks for the help guys.. Unfortunatly, I gave up on trying to get it fixed. I got a good deal on a Treo 650 so I bought it..
I had someone look at the G1000 and the miniUSB did infact some unsoldiered. An easy fix. Hopefully I can put it on EBay or something and give it a home to someone more technology savvy than I and they can fix it for their use.
