all right... i have freshly installed MSA 3,8 from the microsoft website. i have soft reset the phone... it's connected via USB but the computer absolutely will NOT see the phone. i'm stuck in the activesync "connect" dialogue, which 'searches' for the phone but comes up with nothing. It's really angering, because I KNOW that the phone is connected........
You dont need additional drivers to synch just MSA. I went to australia and downlaoded the MSA 3.8 so i could upload some maps to my phone, didnt need anything else.
The first thing i would try (if you have it) is the other USB port on the phone instead of the cable. I have a sony digi cam that came with a USB-A to USB mini b cable (it looks like T with a fat base, look at the bottom of your phone to the side of where it connects to the cradle). If it works that way then you either have a bad cradle or a bad pin on your phone. If you dont have one i would try Radio Shack or a camara store, not too sure if Best Buy or Circuit City would have them.
The second step i would take is of course a Hard Reset.
nope. tried it... windoze doesnt see anything, and neither does a USB port sniffer programme I installed just to see. the phone is dead like this, even if I plug it in via the mini or the cable. the Broken G that I have does the same thing too.
BTW the reason i ask about other USB devices is that I went on vacation and my brother decided to play with the bios on his computer (without my permision). I get a call (mind you im in australia on vacation and hes in the USA on the oppisit side of the planet) that his USB Wi-Fi isnt working. I guide him through some troubleshooting and then tell him just to unplug his xbox from the hardwire and use it on his puter till i get back. To make a long story short he changed many things he had no idea about, one of them being USB support. If you have no other USB items then check that just in case. If other USB items are working then i would try it at a diffrent computer. Like I said before i connected my G with nothing other than the USB cable (from my sony digicam that uses the USB to Mini USB B connectors) to a computer to downlaod maps so you shouldnt need anything but activesynch.
I had this happen to me once with this phone. Had to get it replaced.
Also, shouldnt matter about the CD. I just built this custom computer, installed AS 3.8, plugged the phone into the USB and it recognized/synced just like normal.
the phone will now open activestink any time it feels like it... at first it would do it only when I put it on the cradle (and a few minutes later AS would come up with the message "You must establish a partnership, bla bla bla"). Now it'll do it whenever it want. It never did that before.
And no, the PC still doesn't see it. I'll try just a complete BIOS reset and we'll see if it works.
My G experienced the same symptoms for no apparent reason. I could not sync via USB-mini or the main connector, on two PCs.
I bought a USB to IR adapter for my desktop and was able to sync manually that way. Under ActiveSync > Tools > Connect via IR. Hope this helps anyone with the same issue.
I don't have a warranty, so I have to do what I can to keep this puppy alive.
