New to the Smartphone world, should I buy a G1000?
I've been considering upgrading to a smartphone. My primary goals are to consolidate 3 devices (phone, PDA, Digital Camera) into one. I don't want to spend $600 on the new 6601. I can get a G1000 on eBay for under $300.
Is this a good device? I can live with the size and plan to add memory via the SD slot.
Any thoughts or suggestions would be much appreciated.
The G1000 is over. I love mine, but we gotta be realistic. Just getting service from your cell phone company, ANY cell phone company, is hell on Earth. Dealing with Sprint for a discontinued product is a deeper circle of Hell.
You have to be patient with some problems when you're on the cutting edge of technology, as these devices are. But all the juice is with the 6600/6601 nowadays... That message board is hopping while this one sleeps. And the difference in cost between the two, after discounts, is probably something like a hundred bucks.
I love my G and am glad it's working again, but you should probably go with the 6600. If you have specific questions about the G say so.

ppc phones are finicky. this phone , although good in its hey day, is not supported by sprint at all (except here on this forum). its a first generation device and it was quirky. the phone on fleabay could have any number of problems (intermittent battery connections, camera flip over failure, vision issues, keys getting stuck, etc).
you can get a new 660x for under 400 bux with new service...
by the by, i never had any of these problems (well my "t" key needs to be pressed hard ) and the G was a great phone.. its just that, if you are new to ppcs, this phone may not be the best for such a person...
...the phone on fleabay could have any number of problems ...
That is a REALLY good point. By the time you get around to asking the guy on EBay for help, he'll have spent your money buying Chuck E Cheese for the kids, and he won't care anymore.
Pej, whatever phone you buy you're going to need support both in terms of information and guarantees. Especially if it's your first one. It is *strongly* recommended that you buy the insurance, and pay the premiums every month without remorse.
