G1000 Dial-Up to my own ISP?

Hello,

I was just given the G1000 as a gift from a friend (it's an unused warranty replacement...he's moved on to the free Blackberry his company gave him).

After getting my phone and Vision service successfully setup (took a while to get Vision to provision properly), I decided to poke around and see what tweaks and apps were available for the phone.

This forum seems like a great resource, but there's one question I haven't been able to get a clear answer on: is it possible to use this thing to dial-up to a traditional ISP instead of using PCS Vision?

I'm on the free Vision trial right now, but I'm not real interested in paying Sprint $15/month after that. I do have access to a dial-up account. I've tried configuring this to dial-up to my ISP - using both the "cellular modem" and "G1000 modem" options - but no dice.

Will this even work? It seems to me that Sprint would be smart enough to block this, but maybe not.

(And, yes, I do realize that dial-up over a cell-quality connection would be unreliable and slow, but for the limited use I'm looking for, it would be acceptable.)

Thanks in advance,

Mitch

in order to use any data services on this phone you must go thru sprints vision. you will not be able to bypass vision.

you can use your phone as a dial up modem but you are limited to 14.4Kbps and it will charge you $.39 a minute becuase it is wireless web.
