Im still useing my G but will be geting a new phone soon. My G is on its last legs and about to be warrentied out. Right now i have no clue what im getting as a replacement though up to sprint
wel most of the problems have been solved with this phone... but yeah, the top posters here have for the most part moved on to the 660x... it just me and a couple of you guys... and we all know how the G works inside and out so theres no reason for us to post... but its good to see you guys still here...
once the cam is released on the 660x, im out the door also... witing patiently....
We've all moved over to the dark side but that's not a bad thing. There's still a place in my heart for my G, but I don't regret for a SECOND going to the 6601 (although the beep of death is QUITE annoying, so much so that I usually leave my data connection off). The good 'ol days are still here, just on the 6601 forum now.
Tom
yeah moving to the 6601 is not darkr to me.. i think its light! anyway, by the time we get our hands on the cam version, the 660x version will probably be discontinued! lol....
Still here with the G also- I just saw an article hinting that the XDA IV spec phones will be coming out soon and will wait for the next generation with 640x480 screens as well as Wi-Fi and bluetooth- hopefully sprint will be the carrier- but if not.... At any rate- I will still have the G until that time- the PPC 6601 looks fantastic, but after seeing an iPaq with a 640x480 screen... Wow! Remote desktop and browsing wont be such a pain anymore.
i hate that samsung phone, they tried to get me to buy one when i smushed my first G-1000, i had to go buy another $90 untested one off of ebay which was a small nightmare to reprovision
The XDA IV was just announced, it'll be AT LEAST a year before we see it I'd wager, and probably longer. The G1000 was the flagship for Sprint for about 2 years, I'd say the 660x will be their current model for at least a year and probably closer to 2. Same with Verizon and ATT, they are both carrying the 660x series. I loved my G but you couldn't pay me to go back!
Tom
I doubt we'll see it this summer. T-Mobile has no intentions of putting in a high speed data network anytime soon, they are trying to leverage their wifi hotspot offerings instead, so if you care about data speeds (and who doesn't that owns a PDA phone) then T-Mobile is not really a good option. Verizon is really beating Sprint to EVDO, they announced it's now in my area, Providence, RI and it is quite annoying that Sprint is completely silent about it...
Tom
Yeah, I'm staying put on the G for a while too. I might get interested when the 6600 comes out, but I tire of always waiting and waiting.
My G runs tops and is tweaked to perfection. If my G dies or something REALLY slick comes out, I could leave camp.
I've been checking out the new PPC 2003 devices with GPS - especially the new Garmin model. That could make me jump away from the G and just get a flip phone (or even keep the G).
I think they should make a phone that has both SDIO and CF so that more options would be open than the one or the other choice that the current devices make you choose. I also think that if we have a camera on a pocket COMPUTER the thing should at least be able to record video and save it to flash memory.
I would also want faster than 400MHz processors and some serious video acceleration. These things are priced near the laptop range and I want more for my money. Has anyone seen the (still vaporware) handtops? Win XP Pro, 30GB HDD, and 512MB RAM. That's a real pocket PC. Windows CE is getting old, and I would like to see some innovation in new products that do a LOT more than they can do now.
If you're on the fence about picking up a cheap G on fleabay - go for it. At least you'll learn from it, and at most you'll love it.
and how the hell do I install things on my G-1000 if it won't sync? none of the computers I've tried see it whether connected through the cradle, or directly via USB. I don't know what's wrong with this one, my old G did the same thing.
You need to load the driver from the CD before the PC will recognize it, although I'm not sure about the new versions of activesync, they may have it already.
Tom
installing from the srint cd thta came with it, i followed the instructions to the letter, just to see if I missed anything................ still doesn't work.
oh well, i manage.
i just dump stuff i want to move to the PC on my SD card and then vice versa...
