Anyone know, is there a way to hack the transmitter on this thing to be more sensitive? I only get about 1 bar reception here in the twin cities almost anywhere I go, and moving the phone over a foot, or even leaving it still it will fluctuate from 1 bar to 0 bars. This isn't too practical for taking calls.
Several other G1000 owners have found issues with their antenna not making good contact at the bottom. Do you get better reception with other sprint phones from the same location? If so, your antenna may be a problem. On the other hand, if all phones have poor reception, then there have been rumors of a signal strength booster for fixed locations. (I have never seen one.) Good luck.
My phone works very well and reliable with one bar showing. In my office that is in a lower level(Basement) I go from no bars to one bar. I f I leave the phone on desk and use a head set I generally don't have problems. I have noticed that the reception is somewhat lees than my Sanyo 4900, although the Sanyo 4900 meter is prety optimistic. Unless your calls won't go through or you get dropped all the time don't wory about the signal meter. I use my phone frequently in the Twin cities and have not had a problem.

Reception in my home sucks. My meter bounces from 0-4 bars all day and esp bad at night. It takes me 5-6 tries to make a call esp to another pcs numberAll I get is SIGNAL FADED Dialing *18 helps sometimes. Sprint checked this for me and aparently I am centered between 3 towers and my G keeps jumping between them trying to get a signal. I wish there was a way to adjust the sensativity.
there is a guy "carlgalgano" on the treo section who just bought a repeater at his house. he had zero reception and now has ~4 bars! very good investment for under 500 i believe....
no biggie... just call up the company, tell them which one you want, pay them, and they ship it to your door. nothing special to do... its legal for home use...

Up until Valentines day, I had Cingular for three years and the reception was iffy all over San Francisco, although it was miles better then Metro PCS here. Anyway, my reason for switching to Sprint was better coverage in SF. I have three friends who all have Sprint and one with the original Palm based PDA phone, the big black brick from Sprint, another that has an older Sanyo and finally someone who has the, I think, 4900. They all got better signal in my apartment then Cingular, so it was really a no brainer. The reason I added insurance for the equipment was because the friend with the PDA Brick has had it for like 5 almost 6 years and it survived through two motorcycle accidents in which he was severly injured and the phone that was in his back pocket was not. Anyway, the mic in his just died and they replaced it with a Treo 300. Previously I had heard the 300 had crappy reception and it still got better signal in my house then my crappy Nokia 3390. Speaking og Nokia, is it me or do that just make some funky, crappy phones?

I got mine today. I got in on the signal repeater test that Sprint has been doing off and on for past year. I received a repeater today and set it up in my office. I now have solid service in the office.
Do a search on sprint users or howard forums and you can get all the details.

If someone finds those details and could post a link here I would appreciate it. My service sucks because I live on the first floor of a 6 story building downtown.
