same problem here. Am wondering if it has anything to do with installing to sd card. Where did you install yours. I am real excited about this software. Can see vid from pc but not vice versa
yeah could always see vid from pc and also audio. i get the same error and i have mine on sd. i dont think the sd car is making this a problem.
i just sent them an email message. i encourage all of you G users to send an email message. no one will tell them about this except us so we need to stick together so they can get on it!
Been there, done that, got the reply, here it is folks:
The camera needs an additional file that is not included in Portrait's installation file. We rebuilt this installation file and will upload it to the download website later. Please download it again tomorrow or two days later.
Thanks.

Subject: RE: suggestion for MS portrait
Hello,
I see you released a version that supports the G1000 camera, GREAT. Trouble
is, I can't get it to work, I keep getting a "video not support" error, I
have the Hitachi G1000 camera selected under the video settings, and I
looked through your installation instructions and see no other steps, do I
need to install anything other than the new version of portrait to get this
to work with my camera on the G1000?
Tom Lavoie
OK boys and girls, this proggie is gonna knock your socks off once you get it up and running, I asked the Portrait developers for a copy of the missing file and was pleasantly surprised with an email, and let me tell you this thing works GREAT! I was even testing it in my basement with barely 2 bars and I'll tell you I was getting perfect audio and pretty good video, didn't expect the video to be as high quality as it was. THIS IS THE KILLER APP FOR THIS BABY!!!
Tom
There should be no delay, they said they will be reposting the install for ver. 2.21 today or tomorrow, if for some reason it's not out by then I'll give the file out...
Tom
i must admit i have been into palm for years and i still use my treo 600. if this can operate the way it is intended this could be awesome. but how the heck do you get this program to work. i have the newest version 2.21. what is the set up to view video from the g1000 on a pc?
as stated in my previos post. you need to make sure you have the correct ports open for the pc to see you. just give the person at the computer your ip you get from the help tab in MP and then they will input the number and call you. you will see an incoming call message and hit accept. make sure your g has the g1000 camera selected in options and make sure the other person has mp viewer on their computer.
i just made another successful call from someone at home on their pc to my phone. i was able to see them and even chat with them using msn messenger built into MP. they could hear me and i could hear them as well. very great program.
Hey why do you even need MSN messenger at all, perhaps I'm not following? With portrait you should be able to chat with any other portrait user, both voice and video...
T.
I think you only really need Messenger if you want to use Messenger's buddies list to locate the other computer. I think it is easier using the Messenger buddy list because it shoots through any firewalls, and you don't need to know the IP of the other person (which could be dynamic).
If you choose to use Messenger, then you need to install the latest version of Messenger (.net) and setup your passport. After that, you don't need to load Messenger - just load Portrait. Start your Internet connection before you load Portrait, and set Portrait to automatically logon to your MSN passport account.
You just pick the name of the other person in your buddy list and click the button to call them.
I set both the PPC and the PC to automatically accept connections, and to automatically send video upon connection.
I emailed for the missing G1000 file, and will test further once it is all up and running.
Thanks for the info on that, didn't know portrait integrated so well with msn messenger, saw the ILS server support there but didn't put 2 and 2 together... Too bad everyone I know uses AIM!
T.
Oh yeah, I have 3 computers and my pocket PC running Portrait. I gave each a MSN messenger name to make it easier to tell which PC I am connecting to.
My desktop just says "Tom's Desktop", laptop says "Tom's Laptop" and my server says "Tom's server" (you get the point).
This way I just pick which computer to connect to and see the video from the camera attached to that computer. Each computer has a camera looking at different places. It's kinda a poor man's security system
Heh I'm one upping you on that one, I'm working on integrating a Toshiba Libretto L1 with a R/C tank chassis and a USB webcam, basically I'll have the libretto connected through WiFi at home and portrait running to auto accept calls, I already wrote a VB control application to run on the libretto that will control the motors of the chassis via a basic stamp on the serial port, and I also already wrote a client app that runs on the G1000 and kind of integrates with portrait (program I made in Evb is always on top) so I can remote control the rig from the G and see through the usb webcam... So far so good, most of it is done, just need to finish the support electronics (mainly motor controllers) that interface with the basic stamp and control the speed of the motors. Other than that I just need to figure out how I'm going to make it recharge easily, probably some kind of dock I can drive it into that plugs it in when I'm not using it, because to be useful I'll have to leave it on all the time and the batteries will probably only last a few hours outside of the charging station I make for it...
Tom
I don't think the cost would justify it... The webcam and RC tank chassis are cheap enough, but add up the Libretto, basic stamp, wifi card, the whole thing gets kinda pricey. I just happen to have a lot of hardware at my disposal... I originally looked at the Sharper Image robot that they have, instead of the processing on the robot you attach a USB control/video interface and remote control the robot. The thing I like about my approach (other than the satisfaction that I built it all from the ground up) is that the logic is all on the Robot so if I want I can program some autonomous functionality into it in the future, I can...
Tom
yeah tom your setup is no poors mans security system... thats a very good system. i have my home setup the same way... poor man could not afford this 650 gadget...
also great explanation tom. i said the same things but i guess people got lost in my rhetoric... yours reads much better..
can one of the lucky one's explain to me how to get Portrait working. I am not sure how do I make connect via Messenger so I can chat with video. Do all other firnds need to have Portrait???
