My G has stopped ringing all the time

Hey,
Strange problem. About a week ago, my G stopped ringing reliably. When the power was off, it woudldn't ring, and then when I turned it on and touched anything (or tapped any icon), I would get simultaneous "missed call" and "voicemail" alarms, and it would show that the call had JUST come in (even if it had been hours old).
So, I did a hard reset and reloaded a stripped-down version. The problem originally started right around the time I loaded Animated Today and Macromedia Flash, so I avoided those two apps, as well as many others.
To my large surprise, the newly-formatted phone is doing the same darn thing.

Any ideas from anybody on what might be causing it or how I might try to fix it?

Thanks.

I noticed the exact same thing . When the power is off sometimes it doesn't ring or pop up calendar notices, and then when I turn it on I get simultaneous "missed call" and "voicemail" alarms. It shows the current timestamp for the missed call - even though I know it's old. The strange thing is that it doesn't happen all the time. Sometimes it comes on and rings - sometimes it doesnt. I thought I'd wait for a new software version to come out - I got the latest PRL this morning - 21. I've also had people complain of it ringing 10 or 11 times before I answer it - when I know I've answered it quickly. (not sure how that happened without going to voicemail - but maybe that's a solution to increase the number of rings before going to voicemail?)
I noticed on another post that someone installed wizbar - and was getting the same problem. I originally installed wizbar because I loved it on my iPaq, but have since done a hard reset and not reinstalled. I'm not sure if that could leave something on the phone through a hard reset or not?
I bought the three year replacement plan - and am tempted to get another one to see if it has the same problems. . .

I've also had people tell me they've called me, but my phone never rang, or it rang many times on their end, but only a few on my end. And sometimes I don't receive missed call notifications. Could this be related to the phone's relatively poor signal reception or Sprint's dead spots?

If you move around allot, drive, travel etc. You will miss calls. One of the bad features of a single band phone. Mine is a great work/home phone but for travel it just won't cut it. I was missing calls left and right, it was crazy. Its not Sprint though, this phone combined with single band and some bad reception tends to do this.
Are you in a good service area?
Thanks.

From what I understand from Sprint, it's the nature of the beast. Normally it takes about 2 rings before the call is sent through to my phone. I asked Sprint about this and they told me it was normal and gave me some mumbo jumbo as to why. What I do wish is to be able to change our voicemail settings so that it doesn't answer it as soon as it does. I get a good 4 rings before it does that, but I wish I had a little more time. As far as I know there's no work around for this, but it'd be really cool.

OMGosh, this is exactly what my phone does. Only us with the same problem can really understand it. Its not that we miss calls, or out of area or anything like that. I can be standing right next to my wife and have her call me and nothing happens at all. BUT, as soon as I hit the power button, I get an incoming call message for less than half a second, then missed call notify. Call log says the call just came in, even though it can be hours or days when the call was placed. I also never get my calendar notifies or alams until I hit the power button. If it was an issue with the voicemail pic-up, It wouldnt affect the calender and alarms. Im at a loss, but see that we have a problem and should all get together with Sprint on a conference call, they are blaming it on me...........

It would seem to me at last that there is a problem in the software. There is a call some where in there that wakes up the phone so it can ring and display notices. This does not happen on a hard reset phone as for as I know. So if that is case it must be some installed program that is in some way modifying the wake up call in the programming.

Mine started with the Wizbar install. I have done like 4 or 5 hard resets and not installed anything. Still does it......

Wizbar

I've seen this problem on a few different posts, and all the people who have the problem seem to be related to a wisbar install. Does anyone know a developer at Wisbar - maybe where we can get some more information to undo what the wisbar install puts on the pocket pc? The source code is out there for a download if anyone wants to parse through it - http://www.pelmarinc.com/html/pocket_pc.htm Obviosly a hard reset doesn't remove it - because we all still have the same problems. And there is no way to flash it - so we need to figure out how to fix it.

That has to be correct, something is installed or changed that a hard reset does not reverse. I still think it has something to do with dynamic notify. That is a setting that wizbar advance added so that us phone user would get a dynamic visual as the signal goes up and down. Without that turned on, the icon was static and would only change when the power button was turned off then back on. Thats when my problems started. We should check more into this....

I had the same thing happening but I haven't installed wizbar so that may not be the problem. I talked with tech support and they gave me some story about the phone having to be turned on to acquire a signal. It should already have the signal, it's just in sleep mode on the docking station.

Anyway I was also having a problem with the Activiation Wizard coming up after every call so they sent a replacement phone out. We'll see how that goes.

I just started to have the same problem. I don't use wizbar, so that's not it. In fact the only thing that I've changed on my G was enabling the modem switch. I think that the problem started before that though.

The problem started well after I ran the SDIO upgrade.

I've been trying to figure out what caused this. Changed the modem switch setting in the registry back to it's original setting to see if that makes a difference.

Anyone figured this out yet?

I get missed call and email notifications, the phone wakes up when called, but it just never rings or vibrates!

My G will do what you describe, and also alarms will quit functioning if I press the power button on the back of the phone.

If I just let the phone go into power saver mode (turn display off by itself) then I have no problem.

It seems that pressing the power button does more than just shut off the display.

I've tweaked every setting that has anything to do with the phone or notifications. Changed the mode setting, in case it's at fault, but even in "silent all" mode it won't vibrate.

What is strange is that the ringing is the only thing that seems to be affected. I still get all my reminders and notifications.

btw, no change from disabling the modem switch.

The message on the hitachi web site says that while using SDIO you may "miss phone calls". I wonder if the new driver is at fault. Although I'm not using anything SDIO, just my sandisk 256 card.

I've got to figure this out, people are starting to think that I'm ignoring them!

update. It rang!

I think that it may be related to the mode (or environment) switch.
Once I'm convinced that it's cured, I'll update.

Well my trial and error method has revealed these results.

If I set the "mode" switch to the middle position and then change the environment setting to "outdoor" with the default ringer, the phone will ring and vibrate when I get a call. This seems to be the only combination that works. (although I'll keep trying different combos)

If the mode switch is set to the "normal" position, then no ringing - just the alerts work.

So now that I think that I've figured out the work-aroundI'd like to actually find the real fix.

Does this work for anyone else with the no-ring problem?
