Mini usb port broken inside 8125 * How to repair

Ok i'm boned. Can't sync, can't charge. Has this happened to anyone else? Is there a board I can replace? I can solder with the best of them, is it repairable? Is there a chager that I can slap the battery in?

Thanks,

~CC

I've got the phone dissected. 4 very small torx screws behind the battery case and camera cover. the usb port has 4 solder points and 5 solder connections on the board underneath that make connection to the port via pressure. I need to get a magnifying glass and a good soldering iron. I'll be posting pics soon.

I broke the USB port on my T-Mobile MDA (same as Cingular 8125) and I got a great repair for only $60 plus shipping from PocketPCTechs.com. They're based in California and were very prompt with the repair. I had a "clean" break on the port pins, so I didn't need to pay the extra $10/per pin test (afaik). Hope this helps.

CalCake,

I had this happen to my MDA; however, I was fortunate enough to get a-hold of another Wizard so I could just swap the main boards.

I tried soldering the pins back....but oh man I got a headache so instead I just soldered the piece back on to solder joints and am now debating what I should do with it.

On the bright side I managed to figure out how to make the led light on the back brighter....take out the white cover and replace it with a clear one. I made a clear one by cutting an empty plastic CD case.

Did you ever post pics? How did the repair go? I may need to do this also. Too cheap to pay someone else to do it for me.

My MDA still can sync but can charge anymore. I'm very sure that the problem coming from the USB port (I shake the tip of charger at USB port and sometime I saw recharging). What kind of USB connector (part number) for replacement. I went thru this site Need help: USB connector broke, where to get another one? - MoDaCo, but I could not define what part I need. Anybody know how to fix it (picture?)

Hello,My phone is a 8125 cingular. my little adapter piece that is inserted at the lower part of my phone was disconnected from inside. how ever i sent it to pocketpc@pocketpctechs.com. The information they given me about my phone was on point. All my questions were answered and I even upgraded my memory card and ever since i got it back. it worked perfectly. The time for it to get back took a few days but i did send it out over the holidays. it is working very nicely so instead of paying 250 dollars through cingular (att) i paid 60 dollars for their service and a memory card with adapters included for 34 dollars and they gave me a discount as well..In this site they are selling items for the phone that cingular didnt. is good to do research for items for your phone other than the provider. oh and for the reason of cingular charging me 250 dollars for a EXTENDED WARRANTY.. and then i get another phone.. mind you.. for those cingular customers... if your OFF THEIR NETWORK... beware .. you will not get an upgrade period.. so make sure before you join any phone company if you will be on their network daily..if not.. you will get that upgrade feature taken away..they did offer me an upgrade after arguing.. but i have to sign in 2 more years with them.. no way! anyway this is how i i found this other site..and got my problem fixed. good luck

also i did ask all those questions you are asking. there is no other way to charge that phone other than that mini usb port on that phone.. my daughter has the same phone and i switched batteries with hers but that too is not good. is sad because is a great phone butthat is a common issue with these phones. the mini usb port issue. go to the site i posted before . i got it done there with no problems and they have other items for the phone. good luck
