Direct Push email gets re-notified after email read

I have read the articles on troubleshooting "Direct Push". My problem is not that direct ppush is not working but that it is not working correctly. I have had three different devices testing this (Treo 700, HTC 8125, HTC TyTn) so the problem is not device specific.
When I get a direct push email I can open that email and read it or I can go to the menu and mark as read. The bold writing of the email goes away to indicate that it is read. I then minimize Pocket Outlookl on the device. Aprrox 1 - 2 minutes later the same email shows back up with notification as being unread. On rare occassions it will do this twice. It will even sometimes do it if I manually hit send and receive after reading the email.

Any ideas on some troubleshooting steps? Do I need to change the heart beat or something?

just out of curiosity have you tried another exchange server to see if it's your exchange server causing this issue? or perhaps your account?

here's a free one just FYI...

Do you have any rules in effect in outlook? Anything that moves messages when they hit your inbox or something like that?

No rules or anything ...

I think I have narrowed it down to a server issue. I did try (as suggested by lvlolvlo) the port88 server -- btw what a nice guy that is administering that server! The issue did not occurr using that server.

Now I think I have narrowed it down to two issues :
1) I unchecked use SSL and since doing that this AM it has not ocurred a single time today ..... the thought being that somehow with my Small Business Server (and a minimally configurable built in firewall) the secure connection is timing out or something, while a unsecure connection doesn't ???????

2) or it might still have to do with the fact that on a few ocassions I have left Outlook runing on the PC at work then come home and found a PC there with Outlook running and logged into the Exchange ....... the thought there being that it just has troubel updating all three or even possibly two connections each and every time in a fashion soon enough to not cause the server to think that it needs to re-notify my device.

You'd think it would be easier to troubleshoot but since it only happens intermittently it is not as easy as you might think. For sure since I have posted on forums and newsgroups (microsoft server groups) all over the place it is not a common problem nor an easy problem since nobody as been able to provide a lot of insight to me yet.
