Remote PC access on 8125

Hey Folks, i'm just curious if there is a piece of software included with the 8125 that allows for a user to remotely control their desktop computer. I know there are third party apps available (LogMeIn, GoToMyPC, etc.), but is there a way to do it included with the 8125? Thanks.

The closest thing included is Terminal Services Client, but that doesn't necessarily work with desktops as much as servers.

It will work if the desktop has Remote Desktop Connection -- as Windows XP has. See this link:

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/u..._02june10.mspx

It's not fast, but it is usable.

I tried to get mine to work over WiFi using Terminal Services Client and Remote Desktop Connection, but it wouldn't connect to my desktop.

John, did you use the IP address of the computer or netbios name?
Also as always just double check the firewall settings on the xp machine.

I used IP address and no f/w.... seemed odd that it wouldn't connect, but I only tried three times. I'll try it again some time just for fun.

Have you managed to connect to your desktop using RDC from another desktop? Initially, I had trouble getting the right settings in my router.

I use the RDS client quite often to access servers and desktops. But for desktops, the desktop must be running XP Pro and not the Home Edition. The Home Edition has the Remote Desktop limited to the Remote Assistance application.

you can use vnc viewer on the Pocket PC. The server installed on your PC. Its free and its protocal can be tunneled using SSH or vpn if you need to get past a firewall.

That free one is ok just not as good alot less you can do with it like file transfer and stuff. The ptvnc also is alot faster and better at compression.

jpmihalk I have a somewhat similar issue. I also can not connect to my desktop computer. No firewalls are on or anything like that. After trying 4 different forums and asking questions for over a month. I may just give up!!!

My problem is when trying to simply share files with my desktop computer. I can SEE the computer, just cant connect to it.

The terminal services client (listed in programs on the 8125) can connect to remote desktop which is a part of XP Pro it is not a part of XP Home so if you have home you'll have to purchase some other option.

Or use VNC -- it's free.
