Back in the day when we serviced small businesses we rolled alot of SMB - I agree very good solution for companies that want to limit capitol outlay. As we grew from supporting companies with 50 or < employees to companies with over 500 employees the solutions obviosuly changed a bit. In all of my experience email was only secondarily as important as telephone... and after rolling lots of VOIP you learn quickly that its all about up-time/reliability etc... My point is that while it might seem cheaper from the get go to eliminate MRC's (Monthly Reacurring Costs) at the end of the day Email has become so mission critical even to small businesses that for some clients it might make sense to pay more for a hosted sol.
My partner just recently upgradded to the BB Storm and so far really likes it. We are seeing a few problems and I am curious if anyone else has seen the same thing or knows of a fix. When a call is incoming, we get a little clock on the screen (like the phone is "working"). This clock remains until the call is missed and then unanswerable. Any suggestions? Also, we occasionally get a SIM card rejected message. Thoughts?? Thanks!!
could be any number of things...
1st of all, what OS is he on? if he is on .65 (the device release OS) then you need to upgrade the OS immediately to at least the .75 OS which can be done wirelessly. i am now on the .99 beta release after using .75, .83, .85, .90. .99 is awesome to say the least. many great enhancements.
2nd, the SIM card error can be fixed my going to "manage connections", then "mobile network options" then under "network technology" change the setting to "1XEV". that not only fixes that issue temporarily but it also helps with EVDO connectivity.
3rd, how much memory does he have available "options/status". if running under or near 30000000 bytes/30mb then you will definitely have issues. doing a battery pull once a day helps keep memory fresh and clean. i do one every morning before getting in the car
4th, unfortunately we dont have a big BB community here on PDAPh so i would suggest you spend some time on the crackberry.com forums. here is a direct link to the crackberry storm/9530 threads: BlackBerry Storm 9530/9500 - BlackBerry Forums at CrackBerry.com
by the way everyone...
I am now using ThinkPost ThinkPost Communications - Home
for syncing my Outlook to my Storm and I could not be any happier. $4 per month and now all my syncing is now done wirelessly - a poor mans BES! So I still use BIS for my email and thinkpost handles all my contacts, calendar, task, and note syncing. I do not sync with the DM anymore which was causing havoc with my calendar. Also, Vincent, the owner/developer of ThinkPost discovered an issue with the calendar in the Storm which could cause all of your yearly recurring events to double up in you phone or possibly Outlook. To fix it, remove any yearly recurrences in your January 2009 calendar on Outlook (they can be set back up again starting in January 2010) and voila, fixed! So if you are having this issue, try that fix. It worked perfect for me.
I left the WindowsMobile world back in November 2007 and started with BlackBerry's at that time. From the 8820/8310 to BB Bold, and moved back to Verizon to get the Storm. It is very much a business tool and everyone is running a business today, it's called their life.
Yes, I have the Storm and the Tour. Just installed the leaked 5.0.0.191 yesterday onto the Storm and WOW is what I got to say.
ah ha! very nice! when i saw the name over on BBOS i had to ask! BBOS is way better than CB, especially when it comes to leaked and hybrid OS's. i have not 5/191 yet - still running OOAKPC's 7.99b hybrid which is fantastic. hopefully some sweet hybrids will come from 191.
