Question Converting Sprint Thera Over to Verizon Wireless

Hi to all, new forum member. I have been selling a handful of these PDA/Phones and I have been getting some disappointed customers, I was one, trying to convert a zero'd out Sprint phone to work on Verizon. I saw one person that was talking about having problems with the *228, which is what my customers are complaining about. I had an email out to them to load the Verizon Watcher program to help and they did this, but they get the "You must first dial an area code..." message.

If there is someone that has had this problem and solved it or knows where to go, I would be very appreciative, as I am going to lose out on more customers at this rate.

Thanks, Mike.

Hey There,

I have heard of this very problem before. Although, I can't remember what I had them do to fix it. Assuming the device is activated and configured via 'modem config' then it only really leaves the Verizon Modem Firmware Update.

I would need more details, how about you post that email you are sendnig your customers?

converting Sprint Phone to Verizon

This is the memo. Thank you for anything you can offer to help. It will save many a sale. Thanks.

Please read through this information BEFORE you use any of it.

Watcher running on the Toshiba. Information found online. http://pdaphonehome.com/forums/showt...threadid=34576
We do not offer support on the installation of Watcher or any other program on the PDA.

You will need Watcher installed in order to use SMS or *228 functions... I suggest installing Watcher ONLY after you finish the modem configuration in PCS Connection.

Verizon Modem Firmware Upgrade can be found online at http://www.audiovox.com/downloads/R1...eldVZW_416.exe

Instructions for Basic NAM Programming: Using PCS Connection

Bring up the keyboard and tap "Ctl" and then tap "d"
Tap "##debug" (without quotes), tap "OK"
Tap "Advanced", then Tap "Modem Configuration"
Tap in "nozirevpst" if you have Watcher Installed Already
Tap "000000" (without quotes) when asked for the "Service Programming Code"
Tap "CDMA-2"
Tap the numbers to the right of "Directory"
Tap your phone number in.
Double-Tap the top leftmost number under "SID" (ask your carrier for your SID)
Tap in your SID in box to the right of "SID"
Tap in "65535" (without quotes) in the box to the right of "NID"
Tap "OK"
Tap "System" tab
Tap next to 'Preferred Servinf System", Change option to "Home Preferred"
Tap next to "Preferred Mode", change to "Cellular CDMA Only"
Tap "M.IP-2" tab (only available in Sprint PCS Connection)
Tap next to "Mobile IP Behavior", Change to "Simple IP Only" (only available in Sprint PCS Connection)
Tap "Save"
Tap "Close"

Internet Settings:

The network settings for the NationalAccess service are as follows:

Username: ten digit mobile number@vzw3g.com (i.e. 9995551212@vzw3g.com)
Password: vzw
Dial Up: #777

How To: Establish an Internet connection from a Pocket PC 2002 device

1. From the home screen, tap Start and select Programs
2. From the Programs list, scroll to and select Watcher
3. When the Watcher launches, select the appropriate connection
from the drop down list
4. Click Connect

Note in order for the NationalAccess service to work, the account must
have a NationalAccess plan. If the account does not have the
appropriate plan, the service will not work.

I have not had a customer of the 2 to get this to work. I do not have a Verizon Service to try this out with, otherwise I could see first hand.

Mjlfinn,

I have seen this email before, I know that you didn't write it. Why not ask the person who did write it for help?

Although, I take it your 'customers' are following the instructions fully, and they still get that error message? What country/region are your customers in?

I am certainly not the writer of this and I have asked for some more information from the writer, thought I would give this forum a try as well.

Again, any help with this would be appreciated. I am not a phony guy, but am trying to learn this product.

Thanks,

how about a verizon 2032 being converted to use on the sprint network? I have a 2032 that was on the verizon network, but i have a freind that wants to buy it and use it with sprint. Are they usually locked, or are they easily compatible?

They are usually locked, you need to have someone unlock them.

Wink Solution to *228 problem on Verizon

After talking to every tech in Houston, as well as Verizon software support, customer service, and hardware support, I was finally given the number to Verizon Data Support. After talking to two people there, one of the reps said he would send me a new Thera with all the Verizon software loaded on it. All I should have to do is restore my latest backup from my memory card to the new Thera!

I guess persistence pays off!

PS...in case you wanted the #
