Cool GPS for Thera

Hi everyone! This is a very interesting site. I am new here. I have 2 Audiovox Theras, in case one falls in the horse trough, which it probably will. I am having a lot of fun playing, and now I want a GPS for a trip to Mexico. From other posts and hunting around the Web I seem to find that I am limited to a serial port one that goes into the bottom of the handheld. It looks cumbersome, with cables going this way and that. Now what I really like is the SDIO ones (which also have the advantage of being cheaper) which just piggyback on the machine by means of an SD-card-like-object. Now, I am smart enough to know that I have an SD, but what about an SDIO? Does the Thera have such technology, or can it somehow be upgraded to have it? Anyone who could answer this question would be doing me (not very technologically inclined) a great favor, and if the answer is no, can software for Mexico be acquired for the serial port ones? I can only find Garmin and Magellan software for sure that has detailed Mexican maps. Thank you all.

You are stuck with Toshiba Brand SDIO cards... you will want to get the Toshiba SDIO Bluetooth SD, and also get the DeLorme Blue Logger GPS with Street Atlas Handheld 2005 I guess...

I don't really think this is cheaper than a serial GPS though.

The new GPS is Bluetooth, so as long as you have the Toshiba BlueTooth SDIO card, you shouldn't have any trouble at all.

I love this thing too... it even works without the PDA (it logs your position every 2 secs), also, the battery holds it's charge so well that after a couple days of not using it, it won't even begin to charge yet. It's that full still.

The GPS that comes with Streets & trips is a USB unit. It will NOT work with the Thera.

However, you CAN use the Pharos Bluetooth adapter with the MS GPS receiver to convert it to use with Blutooth enabled PDAs. But the price is expensive as you also need to purchase the Toshiba Bluetooth SD interface.

Look at the prices. Right now S&T is selling with a $10 rebate ($15CDN). My local Staples was selling them for $50 with an instant $15 rebate and the $15CDN mail-in for and end-price of $20!! (and Canadian to boot, eh). You can't beat that.
Now, look at one of the other threads here and you will find that someone on Ebay is selling the Holux serial unit for around $60US. team that up with the Thera and you have a good combo.
The only gotchya is the serial cable for the Thera. I had to build my own for which I've created a thread in this forum.

Hope this helps.
