Jht2,

Yah sorry ... dont have the SDK that your talking about ... You got any ideas about using this device as an external modem and/or using the SD slot for SDIO purposes... TWiST and I have a theroy that the SDIO issue is just Software/Registry issue??

If so let us know:.)

but I have this SDK,What I need is the additional SDK what include the features of modify the ESN.Hehe,I think it is very hard to get.
what sdk are u talking about man ? which manufactuer has released this "supposed" SDK ? why do u want to change hte ESN , for diffrent providers ? as I said before this is cool and all but it has nothing to do with using as an external modem.

on another note I got my thera and its in worst shape then the ebay guy said it was, it had no screen light, its WAY BEAT UP and the broken antenna wasnt even included, plus it has no usb cable so I cant do any testing. Pretty much a useless ebay buy, sux for me.

TO Twist:
First,I must solve the problem of using the 2032 in China for China has only one carrier of CDMA and use the Removable UIM card(like SIM card on GSM/GPRS) with ESN in it and can change the CDMA number with changing the UIM card.So I need write the information of UIM inculuding ESN into the 2032 .So must change the ESN number. As I know, change the ESN number only can access by 2 ways of SierraWireless:1,use the CnS command or using the SierraWiless Alpha/Beta SDK to change and rewrite ESN.2, Weld the Flash ROM chipset of the firmware of the SB555 then using the programme machine to write in.
the 1 of the 2 are all unconvenient for the UIM so my aim is to write a program base on PPC 2002 on 2032 and hack the SB555 dll files to set the ESN by the user self through the software I write
2,For the external modem,we all need it and it is my second aim.
Let me introduce my opinion,We prepare to install a Bluetooth module on it:
the 2032 has 2 external COM port on the mainbord and has enough space in the Case.So what is it meaning? the answer is we can add additional module in the case,we here China team has already successfully added a external GPS module in the 2032 case and link it with the COM port.As the Bluetooth Module is very cheap and small in size in China by taking down of the USB bluetooth like NEC and others,(not the CF bluetooth for the module interface),we now linked the Bluetooth module on the COM port of the 2032 mainboard but we haven't the Driver on PPC 2002 for it is taked down of a USB BT.We are now trying to settel the problem by writing the driver ourselves. or the 2nd way is: Flash the 2032 into Pocket Linux and write(or Emulate the program) a program of Watcher(the SierraWireless),we have the

continue,we have the Linux driver of BT but havn't the WINCE driver,we are now try to settle the driver problem. But if we use BT as the modem interface through the COM port on board, the link speed will below 115200 byte,China's CDMA 1x RTT network supports 152K,I don't know the status in USA and Canada.

I have a few ideas to get the unit working as an external modem using the USB but I have no usb cable yet so I cannot test them. the worst is going all over the net and getting ideas and not writing them down so by the time I get a cable I wont remmebr most of them anyways and will hafta do my research all over again haha.

the BT is intresting but not alot of people are gonna wanna solder stuff, I am curious U said it has 2 internal com ports can u point them out on the motherboard or any kinda info on them ide love to check it out. I have another PocketPC that has a built in BT driver probly woulndt help u maybe and I have access to another PocketPC with a built in BT driver as well. what is the model of the BT adapter u opened for insertion into the Thera ?

This is what I wanna do, I think its really cool to have a PocketPC with cell phone capablilities. But unfortunantly this Thera PocketPC isnt all that powerful the front light sux, the speed is slow and really no 2003 no SDIO no nothing it sux. so what I wanna do is take the SB555 out of the Thera, get that Circuit board mounted Adapter thats attached to the motherboard of the Thera for mounting the SB555, and make an adapter to go to CF cause thats all its doing inside the Thera is adapting to CF so make an External CF adapter for it (I have the pinouts of the SB555 I found them when I was searching for stuff) U could easily make a small case and use an old Nokia er similar antenna to mount in it and u would have a portable (u would hafta install the driver and watcher on the PocketPC / laptop u wanna use it on) Cellular CF card that u could use inside ur PocketPC or ur Laptop. Im sure this can be done the only thing im trying to find out is what kind of connector (most likly a molex er some similar company) is mounted on the motherboard of the Thera where the SB555 attaches.

lemme know how ur BT stuff goes man and if u want me to post those PocketPC drivers and tell me what USB BT unit ur using the model number preferably and I might be able to find a driver that will work for u, most of the time companies take 1 single BT unit and make it for alot of diffrent form factors so make sure u look auorund to see if any1 else has tried to use it for a similar maybe PocketPC application .

also that THERA I got the frontlight does not work, I havent really tried to take the unit completly apart so I can examine the Front light but was wondering if any1 had any1 ideas of possibly repairing the front light or I was thinking I could maybe buy one of those Lightning kits they make for the original GameBoy Advance that adds a Backlight to the LCD screen I might possibly be able to add backlight support instead of those awful front lights, that on my unit dont even work heh.

its 10:30 am and I havent slept yet bye bye

SDIO on the Thera is proprietary so SanDisk's card's won't work. and I doubt that CE's IP stack can handle the IP Masquerade, but could be wrong.

Please refer to the first post in this thread.... SDIO cards are not working for 802.11x

so far only memory cards are werking....

It be nice to find a way to get a wireless card werking in there though... as posted in a previous post... TWiST and I had a theroy about it only being restricted by the registry... can anyone help verify this?

hmmm this really sucks just bought a verizon thera and didnt know about the sdio slot not workin oh well there are a few ways to go about making the thera a wireless modem

doesnt toshiba offer a serial communications cable for the thera to the serial port then u might be able to use this to set up internet connection sharing then this is if internet connection is able to be shared then u can configure ur computer if u have xp im pretty sure that would work ill hafta test out my thera when it arrives ill let u know what turns up

another way would be to go into the phone itself and connect it to a regular telephone line and send and recieve the tones used for a dial up connection the only problem with this is that connection would be slow

let me know if u think either of these ideas would work u can instant message me on aim at mrjake22

I'd just like to start by saying I hope everyone can be patient with me as I'm pretty new to working with these smaller PDA's and not sure on limitations. My question is, since it's using a CF card as it's internal modem, is there any reason why that card can just be replaced with a modded CF 802.11 card for wireless? As long as you can download CE drivers for it, there shouldn't be a problem should there? Feel free to burn me to a crisp in direct relation to my stupidity level.

I'm getting two of those Thera's from computergeeks this week and I'm looking forward to playing around with them. I had planned on using one just as a PDA since I have a company cell phone and no need to sign up for another cell phone plan. I'm hoping that I'll be able to replace that Sierra modem card with an 802.11 card and at least be able to check emails and surf the web wherever I can find a public WAP. Has anyone here ever given that a try?

Havent gone that route yet... As stated in an earlier post.. We have a theroy that the restriction on the SDIO used for 802.11 is only software... still trying to hack it:.) Let us know how your attempt goes...

has anyone thought of going with an acoustic coupler style connection?

I might do some work on this when I get some time.

What that means is you'd do this:

Computer ---Serial Cable--- [ Telco modem ] ---phone wire--- [ Coupler ] --- Wire to headset jack --- [Thera]

It would be ghetto, but if you have a dialup provider, you could get low BPS connections over it.

My idea isn't to try and make SD/IO 802.11 cards work in the SD slot...it sounds as if that's a feature that's been worked to the grave. My thought is to replace the internal CF wireless modem card with a CF 802.11 card. This would leave the SD slot open for storage or memory. Of course, this would take away any use of the device as a cell phone, but I didn't have plans on using it as a cell phone anyways. I'll let ya all know if I'm having any luck with that once they come in and I can start fiddling around with em.

Silly question time:
If you didn't need the Thera as a cell phone, why not just buy the Maestro, which is basically a Thera with a CF slot and no cell-phone?

The Thera's were pretty cheap is about the only reason. And I might be able to find use for the CF modem cards too, so I figured what the heck. At the time I ordered, I didn't even know about the Maestro's either, otherwise I might have considered it. I Just needed a new toy to play with.
