SMS Messages from "Unknown Sender"

Is anyone else having this problem, and maybe even more importantly what's the solution..... I have gone through 3 Audiovox 5050's now trying to get one that will work and they are all having the same problems.. of the 50 or so SMS messages I have got only about 5 of them have had the correct sender phone number, another 4(ish) of them have had the correct number with an extra 1 appended to the end (ie 5555555555 becomes 55555555551), but all the rest have been "Unknown Sender". I purchased my phone through Bell, and they say it is a known problem, but it only seems to affect some of the devices on the west coast... but that it is typically fixed with a hard reset. I can hard reset mine all day and it still gives me intermitted problems....

As an example of the problem yesterday I received 4 text messages in about 30 min all from the same friend... only the second showed his number, the others were all Unknown Sender...

Anyway, now that Bell has discontinued the phone they don't seem very eager to help.. and overall they don't seem to know what to do to fix it.... has anyone else seen this, and are there any firmware upgrades that I just haven’t found yet that I should try to install that might help me out.....

What I have been told most recently over the phone is that this is a problem within the Audiovox 5050s OS, and that the problem will not be resolved until Audiovox releases an upgrade to Windows Mobile 2004... anyone here think there is any chance of that happening? And is there anyone who receives SMS messages on a regular basis and has no problems?

I am out of Ontario, and I have no problems like this. All my sms come in with proper sender info. I am hoping that when they release the 6600 they will give us mindows mobile updates.......but I am doubtful..

Unhappy me not good

lucky you man. today i received 15 delayed sms, with 'unknown sender' all of them. they happened to be sent by different people, and i don't even want to begin asking who sent what. that's kinda embarrasing. and from what i'm reading here, it'd a waste of time calling up the data guys to get some help.

the moment bell releases another windows device, i'm switching. in this aspect at least, as was happier with my thera!

I assure you there is no point in getting a hold of anyone about this. I have wasted many hours dealing with both Bell and Audiovox, and there will be no solutions provided. Bell has been great, and tired very hard to find the problem, and want very much to fix the problem, but they are positive the problem is within the OS on the 5050. Audiovox has been very rude, not at all helpful, and at times don't even seem to acknowledge that there could be problem.... during the few times however when they say there might be a problem, they just say it is because Bell is making changes to their network, and that they can't say anymore.

For me, my device needs to be soft reset on average 5 times a day, SMS messages are almost always from 'Unknown Sender', the little 1x icon that should display never does, and my SD 256 MB + WiFi card doesn't work (to name some of the problems I’m having, but not all)………. but none of these problems are Audiovox’s, and Audiovox has said several times now that there are absolutely no upgrades or patches being planed, and it is unlikely they would ever be considered now that the 5050 has been discontinued.

Given the chance I will be switching from the 5050 as fast as I can...... and in the future I will be staying as far away from Audiovox as I can... I have been blown away at their unprofessionalism, and there overall attitude towards supporting their product. They do not care that there are problems, and they will not make any effort to fix them.

.... anyone have any news on when another PPC device will be available on Bell, I can hardly wait.

I'm not trying to defend audiovox but keep in mind that your device is a Falcon. The only thing that makes it a 5050 is the audiovox sticker on the front. Audiovox has had absolutely nothing to do with the creation of the device, and unfortunately there is no other canadian carriers that have anything remotely close to the calibre of this device. Your only choice for a high calibre ppc will be the audiovox 6600 (harrier) in the beginning of april
