I've had this little wonder for about 6 months now and I would like to know about other owners' experiences with battery life.
Mine seems to need recharging far more often then the manual indicates. I only field 4 or 5 calls per day and mostly use it for appointment reminders only. I pretty much have to charge it every night.
This is an easy going board, no Flames. I think he was actually trying to help.
As far as your question goes... I've had my ppc5050 for abt 1 year. I've noticed that in a digital area, it can go all day. In an analog only area, I'm lucky to make it to noon.
Hence I purchased a piggyback battery made by O2 for their version of the PPC. I forgot what it's called.mmm... nope.
Anyhoo, this battery adds easily a couple of days to a full charge... It's reallly worth the investment of $80 US.
bye for now.

Yakozako, you said you can go in analog areas with your 5050?
Is it not supposed to raom in analog area... i need explanations. (i know my question is off topic, but i am very curious to know...)
Sorry... guess I don't like to be instructed in the obvious. I had read the other two threads and found them to be not quite on point. Apologies if my tone seemed strong. Thanks for your response Frank, that's helpful.
Anyone else having short-lived battery experiences please feel free to jump in.
I use Analog to describe anything that has 1940's encoding technology at the lower frequencies. CDMA, a type of spread-spectrum modulation, tends to be very power demanding, especially at lower frequencies.
Hence, when I go in the woods, my ppc5050 switches to this mode and lasts a whopping 4 or 5 hours.
In town, it can last days on my desk.
simple math.
good luck with the battery question...
FRANK

yip, Frank is Francois, came here from Joliette when the bombs where going off during the October crisis.
Hey FMJ did you ever get an extended batt for your 5050? If you're out on the tractor, as I've read in your previous posts, it will make all the difference.
If you haven't already, you should look into a wireless jabra headset. Got mine 1 month ago and haven't looked back. Just make sure it's for the Pocket PC enabled PDA....

October crisis huh, it was in 1972 or somewhere? I was a baby in diapers!
A battery extender for the XDA 2 would be a nice choice for me, but after tree months of use, it's needless. Saturday October 16, i woke up at 5:30, pick my 5050 out the cradle, and run to the barn. During the day, i take some notes, checking e-mails 3 times, make and receive 4-5 phone calls, browse the internet 30 minutes, come back at home at 9:00pm, watch a movie with my wife, during the movie, i chat with my friends on MSN Messenger, for two hours, at the same time i brose the internet again and check e-mails again, at 11:15pm i got the first low battery alert, and at 00:45am i get the red battery alert, and at 1:10am, put my 5050 in cradle. In tree months, i have to use the car adapter in one tractor only once. That was a typical hard day for my 5050....
When i ask more details i want to see a comment like that...
A wireless headset could be a very intersting accessory (the Jabra FreeSpeak BT200), the problem is that i need my two ears to get the work done, in a farm, there is a lot of heavy noises.
Ok FMJ... Didn't know you had asked me for details?
I'm VERY surprised by your FULL day with the regular 5050 battery. You definetly got a doozie batt on yours. And this, I presume, without upgrading the internal LiPmr battery? Woosh.
If you would like a typical day for my 5050 then read on...
I get up at 5h00am after my fully charged PDA was on all night. Then goto work. I check emails every 2hrs, I do not browse the net, I use the telephone 60/40 (Digital/CDMA). Telephone wise I receive on average 45 calls and make, on average, 30 calls.
By 16h00 my phone is half flat, and that's with the external battery attached, on my 45mins drive home I leave it plugged in and used it during the evening. I goto sleep at 10h30 and the phone stays on.
During the evening I cradle the phone on and off.
hope this helps, gotta go ..

ah, now that's the kinda stuff I needed. I get nothing like this from my unit. It acts largely as a cell, I might check the planner maybe 5 times per day, rarely email. Things are quiet now so I might get and receive 10 calls a day and by 3 PM it's beginning the low power nag. I work largely out of the Scarborough area so I should always be digital. I am wondering if the battery may have gotten a bit abused at the store before I got it.
Question, had your phones ever been opened (ie. the plastic bag they came in unsealed)? Did they have any charge when you bought them? I would kill for that kinda battery life.
My phone were from another sales point, it was unsealed. I forget to say that, i refresh Weather Panel 5 times per day; also i put my 5050 in the cradle every time i go to lunch, 30 minutes of recharge every time, 3 times a day. Maybe this help my battery stay alive... Or i am really lucky to have a super good battery
Now i got an update, If i log on Msn messenger all day long, and no reacharge at all for all the day, my battery wont be able to go further than 9:00 pm. Messenger is using a lot of power. If i dont recharge it also, but not log on messenger, i come back to home at 9:00 pm, with 70% battery remaining.
