I was told in one Bell store (Yorkdale) that Bell had bought 25,000 units for all of Canada and that they had sold all of them. The salesman couldn't explain why they wouldn't just order more though. Some teckie that I called told me that they had decided to discontinue it and wait until next years models come out before ordering more. I did find a few stores that had them in stock still - I bought mine a couple of weeks ago in the new store at Dufferin and Rimrock.
My guess is that they didnt like the fact that Audiovox sold their handset division to UTStarcom. Who knows if our devices will be still supported by the new company. See this news broadcast on the sale...
Not quite true... TELUS has been offering the Samsung i700 for quite some time. In fact, it was introduced in Canada before Bell brought the PPC-5050 to market.
I'm not a big fan of the i700's hardware specs, though.
There will be a new Audiovox model replacing the 5050 before the end of the year. Other then a built in camera I don't know of any other enhancements at this time, having used the 5050 it works very well.
will they still be branded as an AudioVox unit or will it be a UTStarcom unit? Are they also on the Bell Mobility network? or is the new unit you are talking about a GSM phone?
