Hi, i'm a newbie, and here are some dumb questions, First - How did u get to load the cab file mentioned herein on ur 4100?
Second - I have been going through these forums, and followed directions to dumprom onto my pc, but the DOS prgm runs for a sec. and does nothing or asks for nothing!
If possible, it would be gr8 if u would kindly guide some of us through the process.
Thankx!

all you have to do is load the file onto the pocketpc. you can use the onboard storage folder and just choose it by tapping it. it wil auto load the file

Thankx!
Any news on if anybody successfully upgraded their 4100 to WM2K5?

Guys at Audiovox CS told me that they will not be posting any more updates on PPC4100, rather they might come out with a newer instrument with WM2K5 loaded.

I know a few of u guys are trying, so good luck, and let us know if successful!

SP230 ROM badly needed

ok, so I had a fried SP230. I downloaded an SD bootable *.nb0 files (the link is available in this forum) and at least got the thing running again.
However, these were PPC4100 files, so the PDA functions, but the phone is dead.
So, please someone who has SP230, please upload Your ROM

You can get the ROM file by doing following:
1. Download OSImageTool from
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/wiki/XDAtools
2. Run the tool and choose
a) Source: Device memory
b) Destination: push '...' icon on the right and put the enter name like SP230.nb1 (nb1 is important, otherwise OSImageToll won't work).
3. Upload the resulting file eg. to yahoo folders.

I've checked resulting files and there's no problem extracting the new ROM from the *.nb1 file, just a little tweaking needed, which I'll be happily reporting back to You guys. Just get someone to upload that SP230 ROM... PLEASE!

Anyone with Anextek SP230 out there to copy ROM image from?

this is what happened:
1) I found ROM Image of Rover S1 (apparently Russian version of Anextek SP230/Audiovox PPC4100) here:
http://mamaich.kasone.com/fr_rover.htm
2) extracted the image into an installation version SP_K1112_230A.nb0 (total size 29Mb)
3) Installed new ROM, using the second NB0 file from PPC4100 ROM installation.
4) The phone does not boot up any more
5) Installed the old PPC4100 ROM back and at least it boots up and the PDA functions are working again (the phone as mentioned in the previous message does not work, of course).

Possible explanation and workaround:
The ROM installation requires two NB0 files (files for PPC4100 available in this forum). One for the main ROM, and probably the other as the extended ROM.
It appears that the both have to be the same version and you can't replace the other by another version.
Workaround: OSImageTool reads only 32Mb of the ROM Image. SP230/PPC4100 has 64Mb ROM. I can modify OSImageTool to read all 64Mb - therefore getting both NB0 files.
However - anyone with with SP230 to copy ROM from out there? I'll modify the tool at once if someone would run it their phone and upload the ROM.
Of course, this would also be the tool to unlock all the PPC4100/SP230 there are out there.

Forgot to mention: Installing the PPC4100 ROM which is uploaded on the forum by someone, locks the phone to AT&T network - this is why copying the ROM from an unlocked phone and installing it, would most probably unlock the phones.

I am the one who uploaded the nb1 rom image. The file that contains the code to lock the phone to ATT is rilgsm.dll, which is included both in the *.nb1 file that I uploaded and in the SP_K1112_230A.nb0 that faramisimo got from Audiovox. My version should be unlocked, but it's an older version of the rom. If you read this whole thread you'll see that I posted what the differences are.
I believe what faramisimo said about rom is correct: there are two parts 32 MB each. One is the (locked) extended rom. This is just a guess from reading the xda forum. To unlock the phone from ATT it should be enough to replace the rilgsm.dll in faramisimo's image with the one one in my image and then repack it. I never got around doing it.

If I understand correctly, a nb1 file is a nb0 file with the directory structure included. I guess that means that the upgrade utility from audiovox to be used with the nb0 file contains the directory structure somehow, and it's probalby harcoded to the specific nb0 file that is provided.

Also, if I remember well, the xda tool don't capture the phone radio rom, which is what you'd need to get your sp230 working again.

Out of curiosity, how did you manage to fry it?

as far as i know the memory is divided in 3 parts.

ab) 64 megs of ram ( main memory) this is divided between storage and ram.
Some of the OS files are stored here.

c) built in storage 32mb
I personally think its useless as soon as u get an SD card

d) rom: the rom image is stored here.
this is accessed when the pda hard resets to restore the os. i think it also installs some of the OS files are stored here.

SP_E0402_230A.nb0 is 256k (bootsstrap)
SP_K1112_230A.nb0 is 29mb (rom image)

now both files are needed for the PDA to function. now playing with the boot strap is dangerous because if anything goes wrong u will have a paper weight or a door stopper.

Yes when u do write the rom image that was posted here it will lock your phone. They would only give me the updated rom image which has a lock to at&t. that can be easily solved with the replacement of the rilgsm.dll file and that’s not a problem.

now. if I understand xjxaver correctly u have flashed your pda with the audiovox 4100 and it works but it doesn’t allow u to use the phone because its locked? Or because of another reason?
If its locked u can grabthe rilgsm on this site and replace it then soft reset that’s all u will have to do. Let us know how things go.
Did u also write the bootstrap or just the rom?

nemo3, go here http://www.xs4all.nl/~itsme/projects/xda/romtools.html u will find really good info on where the directory structure is located and other.

The file formats we are talking about her eare for the xda. This one seems to be a little different for some reason. Xda uses nb0 format for the bootstrap only. Nb1: the rom image only. And the nbf should have both rom image and bootstrap.
This is also explained on the link provided above.

if I am off please correct me.

PPC4100 ROM

Hi,
I am one of the unlucky ones that go had and update the rom from audiovox webpage and now my unlocked phone is locked. Does anyone have the old rom file that I can use to re-flash. I have the dll file and it kind of works but the problem is my cingular card connects to an AT&T tower and showes that it is rooming although they are same now. I don't know if this is a problem.

So please let me know if any body had the old rom or know a way to get the rom image from an old back up.

Thanks.
