i havent heared from jr97ai for a few days now. i am pretty sure he got cought up with something thats keeping him verry busy. we are all working ppl so it seems and verry little time to soend on this isue.
at this time i am looking for a bn1 rom wm2003se image to try and flash it on the ppc4100 using the original bootstrap that came with the ppc 4100 i havent seen one around that looks good to me so as soon as i find one i will let u know how it works out.
Did you manage to make a back-up of the rom and flash it back? If I knew I could flash it back to the original rom I'd be more willing to experiment. Unfortunately I depend on it and I can't afford messing it up.
look at your first post on this threa right above it i have posted the info needed to get the original rom file for the ppc 4100
its the latest one i go tthose from audiovox on a cd with a letter wich is posted onthis thread i believe.
if u are going to flash a differe operating system on this phone i dont think u should play with the bootstrap file (the small file)
u cna download the rom file u can extract it with dump rom u can do wahtever u want with it. u can also flash it back but that wont change a thing unless u get a different os
let me know if u have trouble downloading the file and do let me know if you found a good second edition image. post here tell us what u find out.
thanks for taking interest.
Thanks. I'll try to mess around as soon as I have some time. Did you try if the rom they gave you locks the phone to ATT?
I want to upgrade to the rom because I am hoping it'll solve my problem with opening the BT com port for my GPS (see my other post about BT), but, on the other hand, I don't want to lock the phone since I use it for international travels.
I bought a Toshiba BT SD card3. I spent the week-end trying to get it to work. I can't get it to pair to any device. I can't understand if the card is defective or if it just won't work with my ppc4100. In any case, it's going back to to the store today.
I was looking at the XDAtools page, and read that it can only save the PDA rom, but not the phone rom. Can that be the reason why you can't find rilgsm.dll once you dump the rom file?
It that's the case, I doubt we can package a rom that will keep the phone unlocked, unless we find a way to save the phone rom too.
i was trying to find the rilgsm file i was stating above for somereason i couldnt find it. i dont understand this. its making my head hurt.
I can see rilgsm in activesync. What I was referring to is what you said here above. Did I understand correctly that you extracted the files with dumprom but could not find rilgsm among them? Or have you found it now?
I downloaded your files tonight. I'll play a little with them after I make a few back-ups of my rom. BTW, you may want to edit your message: the pass for the ftp side should be "xda" (low caps).
I am also uploading my unlocked rom to the same site.
BTW, I found that if you press the rocker after you enter the bootloader you get to a diagnostic menu. The speaker test is kinda creepy. The pda hard-resets after doing that, so better have back-up copies handy.
oh wow posting at the same time.
so about the rom making process,
i have been told that u need the operator file from waht i understand it contains info about all files in rom file and directory structiure.
on another note there is a file from the http://www.anextek.com/ it updates the audio drivers. now that file is anexecutable it runs from th epda andupdates the rom. i like that little proggie. now what wouldbe really cool is if we could dissassemble it and replace the audio drivers with what we would like to change.
i am sure thats not easy to do but its worth a try
I extracted both your copy of the ROM and my back-up copy. I am doing some comparison. I am rather optimistic about being able to cook an unlocked ROM...we'll see soon. Now I have to stop.
oh i was doing the idra client test on my pda and it fails. i dont think thats good. but the ir works fine.
the server test loops forever how did u'r tests go?
-----------
edit:
u probably have different file because th eimage i posted is up todate and newer from the one u are using on u'r pda.
Yes, my ROM is older (17 may 2004). I was trying to figure out what they improved in the new ROM they sent you. Apparently not much beside locking it and audio parameters.
You're right on those files, I checked xda-developers wiki.
I flashed mine with the new rom, and it shows the right ROM date after I hard reset. However, when I restore my data with activesync, the ROM date goes back to 17May2004. It seems that activesync restore copies over also the old ROM files?! Go figure...I'll have to find a way to stop it from doing that.
I haven't had time to try much else and will probably not have any until the week-end.
I did not try all tests in the diagnostics. I got freaked out by the speaker test
