This is the official FAQ forum for the iPhone. There is much speculation today about accessories, plans, pricing, etc... but once this becomes clear, this is the place to post all questions and answers.
I work for a certain company that gave us 15gb Ipods for hitting a target a few years back. My hard drive went bad after a month or two. I called to get it covered by warranty, but I discovered it had expired, because our company had the Ipods sitting in their promotions and awards warehouse, before they were given out. To make a long story short I was not happy. I went to a certain national store chain and may or may not have bought a 20gb Ipod, took it apart and swapped the good 20gb hard drive for the bad 15gb hard drive. My question, since you can take an Ipod apart with a scraper razor, has anyone tried to look at the iPhone hard drives to see if they are compatible with the video Ipods, or to see if you can by I bigger capacity hard drive on the net?
With the phone on OR off, push and hold the sleep/wake button at the top of the phone and the home button on the bottom of the face of the phone at the same time for a full 10 seconds. DO NOT use the slider to power off, the phone will cycle down and power off.

Funny it worked.....the last time!!Now I am not sure what was working before they put a hole in my head!!!!
Does Apple/AT&T honor corporate discount plans for the iPhone? I was told this by one of their (AT&T) customer reps two weeks ago.
I had two deal breakers in getting the iPhone. One of them (multiple text recipients) appears that it will be fixed in the next release. The other was that I could not take advantage of my 25% monthly plan discount if I were to use the iPhone.
Is this true?

It is correct in that AT&T does NOT honor ANY corporate discounts on the iPhone plan. Other phones on the account may take advantage of the discounts but the iPhone plan will not.
For example, a family plan may have up to 5 phones, but the line with the iPhone will not be discounted. From what I have seen, shared plans will also not be discounted, but individual additional lines can be discounted. My plan is:
5 lines - 1500 minutes shared, unlimited texting shared
1st and 2nd lines no extra costs, no discount due to iPhone
3rd, 4th and 5th lines discounted at 23% off of $9.99 monthly charge
So I am paying more, but it is still less expensive than having a single line iPhone plan and four other phones on a family plan.
As far as the multiple SMS recipients issue, it is still a rumor until something is released. As much as I would love to see it happen myself...

This post should be updated with more current information about the 3G.

Will the Belkin "basic" car power adapter work with the 3G?
I went to WalMart yesterday to get a car power adapter for my new 3G. I selected the belkin over the griffin, went to my car and plugged it in. No go. A message popped up that said it wasn't made for the iPhone and wouldn't charge. I had to go back and get the griffin.
I'm not sure of the model number of the belkin that didn't work. It stated it would work with the itouch (no mention of the iPhone) so I thought should work. The belkin had the dc power out port in addition to the ipod connection.
To anyone thinking about buying any accessories like this - try them out before you leave the parking lot....it may save you some time.

It's working for me, there must not be anything wrong!
How do you transfer documents (i.e., Word, Text, Excel) from your laptop to the storage on your iPhone?
I tethered the iPhone to my PC/Laptop and tried to see the iPhone under File Explorer. I don't see it...
I have documents from my Samsung i760 that I would like to be able to view in the iPhone.
Thanks...
You cant you are limited to the stuff (crap) that you can se in iTunes.
Umless you go buy a 3rd party app.
There is one out there that will do what you are looking for I forget the name.

As mentioned this is not native to the iPhone. If your PC is a Mac you can use Filemagnets (I believe that's the name - check the App store) to see the file view of the iPhone. I use Readdledocs. It provides web space that you upload your files to and then you use the application on your iPhone to download the documents to your phone. You can read them in the application but not edit. You can then delete them from the web. Hopefully Mariner will have an application soon that will handle Excel. Sooner or later I would expect the whole MS Office suite to be available - everyone would like to make money. There is also Bookshelf but it's limited in types of files and Files which flat out didn't work for me. iPhone 3G is pretty new, as is the App Store - check it daily.
Regards,
Kurt
*3001#12345#* in the phone app to see field test info..
I just discovered that one of the cool things about the Field Test Mode is that it allows you to see the db reading for the signal rather than just looking at bars.

I would like to filter my contacts by GROUPS (i.e., work, family, medical). I do not see on the iPhone the opportunity to assigned each contact into a group. I use the newest version of Outlook on my PC and I sync via Mobile Me.
Thank you in advance for any responses...

I'm on a mac, but my grouped contacts show up on the iPhone. On the main contacts screen there is a left arrow near the top left corner that says Groups.
No contact categories exported from Outlook to iPhone
I am using Exchange 2003 and Outlook 2007 for the PC. All "Groups" does for me is list:
All Contacts
Contacts
Distribution Lists
Directories
The last one (Directories) is a listing of contacts in our Exchange server's Global contact list. I never looked at this before until now, but I jsut discovered that my contact categories in Outlook do not transfer to the iPhone. That really bites!!! Big weakness of the iPhone if you ask me, not being able to search contacts by category.
