3.1 update available now

You have to upgrade to iTunes 9.0 first. None of this is terribly exciting, though.

Just did the 3.1 upgrade using iTunes 8.2.1.6. They don't require iTunes 9 to do the upgrade.

Interesting - it wasn't available to me until I upgraded. Maybe they pushed the iPhone upgrade out while I was updating iTunes.

Could be. I did it by mistake. I didn't know iTunes 9 was out until after I upgraded to 3.1.

T115 did you by chance do either the MMS or tethering hacks? If not, can you check and see if they updated the software to allow both? I had mine done prior and they are still there and still working.
Settings > General > Network for tethering
Settings > General > Messages for MMS

3.1 breaks the tethering hack. Don't upgrade if tethering is important. Can't comment on MMS. I didn't have it setup.

Has anyone JB'd after 9.0 and 3.1?

You can't JB yet, we have to hold tight for a bit.

Thought I had tethering still since the menu was still there. As soon as I turned it on to try it, the menu disappeared.

Has anyone else noticed a lot more dropped calls after upgrading? I lost 10 calls on 95 in northern VA yesterday.

I had to redo the hack because I wasn't getting voice mails, I just tried tethering and it removed the menu for me to but I still have MMS.

I'm losing calls also. Could be in the first 5 minutes, maybe longer. Most often, I can't tell the call is lost right away except that I can't hear the other person. The other person tells me they can hear me (sometimes). This is a drag. #1 priority on this phone is phone call quality, duh. If it keeps happening, I'll be calling AT&T.

If dropped calls turns out to be a common issue, I'm holding off on the update. Our coverage in our area is bad enough already without this.

I don't remember a single dropped call with 3.0/3.01 on my phone. Now its at about 70-80% of my calls (I believe).

I'm also in NoVA, and I've had a lot of issues with dropped calls lately, but it was even before the update. Might just be bad timing.

Could be. I've never lost so many calls, especially on I95.

Well, (after this 3.1 upgrade) I did a restore and things are working much much smoother (overall general faster response of the GUI and at least perceived stability) although I can't say for sure the phone calls aren't dropping since I haven't gotten many phone calls so far. Time will tell.

update: It appeared that the calls were working better also after the restore but I just got a dropped call this morning after less than 5 minutes. Its not even dropped. The sound just cuts out for me, but the person I'm talking to can hear me.
