I recently moved from the Samsung i760 on Verizon to the iPhone on ATT. While ATT has been surprisingly good in most areas, it is pretty crappy at my apartment. What's odd is that I do get fantastic reception at times and no signal at all at others. Most of the time I get 1 or 2 bars which as you know means a dropped call within 10 minutes.
I saw that plastic case that allegedly gives you slightly better reception in some environments but I'm not getting it unless I hear good things.
In the past I have seen expensive devices that allegedly boost signals but are apparently against most carriers' TOS and considered illegal by the FCC (which I don't care).
Thanks in advance for any insight that you can provide.
Have you done the cell tower update thing, I did the same thing (VZW to iPhone) in April, I had the same experience. Appearantly the only way to update your cell towers on the iPhone is to power down and restart ... ie ... hole the power button down and slide to power down ... I did that a couple of times and my reception has improved dramatically ... I was told to do it in the worst cell reception area I had ... which happened to be home ... I'm consistantly getting 3-4 bars and even 3g where as before I was getting 1-2 and edge ... so give it a shot ... ya got nothing to loose.

Nah I did that the other day. Dropped two calls within 5 minutes since.
I am having the same problems, I have 4-bars w/3G, and I still get drops calls since the update, (3.1) I had no drops calls at all......anyone with some answers on how 2 fix that......

I had the same issues after installing 3.1. It was so bad that sometimes when trying to call out the phone would go through the motions on the screen but not ever get a ring through the speaker. I would then have to reboot the phone to be able to make calls. I finally did a restore via iTunes to 3.1 again and set it up as a new phone ... not using the backup ... kind of a pain ... the results were outstanding. I routinely have 3-4 bars now and haven't had a dropped call or an outgoing call failure since doing the restore ... might be worth a try for you.
