Jailbroken 3GS

Just jailbroke my 3GS. Go to Purplera1n.com and download the windows Geohot app. It was as easy as 1...2...3.

I could not get it to work with Vista. Everyone seems to say it only works with XP....definitely not Windows 7. I guess one could try it in XP compatibility mode. The George purplera1n photo will show up on your 3GS....that is how you know it is working. I will reboot and then you will have a "Freeze" icon on your springboard. It will ask to install Cydia when you run it.

Can't wait to get SBSettingsback.

Typing in "http://Purplera!n.com" does not work for me, nor does www.Purplera!n.com. Can you post a link? Also, how reliable is this source? According to the Dev Team, the jailbreak for the 3GS is not yet available and probably won't be until 3.1 is officially released. BTW, the Dev Team is suggesting (warning) users not to upgrade to 3.1 until the jailbreak is out.

Basically Geohot says....just jailbreak....it doesn't matter if Apple fixes it, he is good enough to find a loop hole again and again. Waiting on the DevTeam.....Geohot is basicaly the DevTeam.

Couple points.....this was the slickest jailbreak yet.....compared to Pwnage and QuickPWN.

The purplera1n.exe file is less than 400KB, and it took maybe 1 minute 40 seconds to jailbreak. It was pretty amazing.

I used Vista to start, but it did not work for me. I ended up having to do a restore a couple of times and I thought at one point I'd have to make a trip to the Apple store. But then I read that everyone was saying to use XP. I wish I had read that first....it would have saved me a restore.

When you hook it up to an XP machine it is just amazingly simple.

Too bad I've already upgraded to 3.1. Looks like I'll be waiting awhile longer to jailbreak my 3GS. I really want it so I can use my Sling over the 3G network. (Of course, it would be nice to have SBSettings back. )

Just an FYI: Winterboard does not work with this JB. Rumor has it that a newer JB from Geohot will be available in the next few day;'s with some improvements. I, for one, am waiting for a better, more stable JB.

Don't feel too bad about running 3.1. Remember, you can Voice Control over BT...

I did the jailbreak on my Vista machine. I had never done this before. Worked like a charm.

I guess it works for just about everything....PC....xp, Vista, 7, and Mac....osx too.

Errors and upgrades to make Cydia faster, but still no Winterboard, but that is up to Saurik to fix according to GeoHots blog.

Cydia was getting unbearable with the 3G....taking too long to load. It loads incredibly fast now. Do those with the 3G 3.0 see the same thing, or is it the S that is making it load quicker than before?

My work computer sent me to the wiki....I used a google cached link to get the file. My iPhone displayed the webpage properly though.

3G 3.0, Cydia is still terribly slow to load.
