I unlocked it (3G not 3Gs) using ultrasn0w and Only becuase I may sell it and thought I would get more money for it or at least be easier to sell.

I sold my non-jbed/locked white 16 gig 3g for $340 on craigslist with in 30 minutes of posting it. I got 11 emails, 9 text messages and 2 phone calls before i pulled the ad. If i had a dozen of them I could have sold them all! I wouldn't over think it, just get it listed. I offered to JB/Unlock for an extra $20, but because there was a small crack in the cover, the buyer opted not to and went straight to the apple store to get it replaced.

If you are a legit ATT user, there is no reason at all to unlock the phone. The only reason to unlock is to use the iPhone on a different carrier (such at TMobile, Orange, etc). If your phone is unlocked, and you are a legit ATT user, you may run into difficulties with such things as visual voice mail.

Frankly, the only advantage of an unlocked phone is the ability to use it on a network other than what it was locked on.

I unlocked my first gen iPhone when I sold it to a guy in Ireland. I did not unlock my iPhone3G when I sold it, because the user was already an ATT customer, and would be using the 3G on ATT. And, with my current 3GS, I have done a jailbreak, but not an unlock, since I am using ATT. I would only unlock it if I was going to use it overseas. And, even then, in order to use it overseas, I would still have to get a different sim card for the carrier there.

I broke down and bought 3GS, just had to have the latest device. I'm running purplera1n, it puts the phone in recovery mode and just sits there, says Done! wait..... No instructions anywhere? Has anybody else experienced this?

Maybe I should try Redsn0w?

purplera1n does not work on 3.0.1, if that is what your iPhone came with. You must use redsn0w
