I know that most of us were disappointed by the lack of BT voice dial control in 3.0 but the 3.1 was just seeded to Dev's and it's included in this beta!

You just made my day, which is just getting started! This is great news about 3.1!

Okay, I'm just a little bummed. I was expecting the voice dialing over Bluetooth to be similar to Voice Command and Voice Signal. Specifically, I was expecting I could hit the button on my BT headset (Jawbone 2) to bring up the voice dialing prompt. However, BT voice dialing on the iPhone--even with 3.1 firmware--is not working that way. Instead, I still have to hold the Home button on the iPhone to get the voice dialing prompt. The difference between 3.0 and 3.1 is that, with 3.1, the voice dialing prompt comes through on the BT headset and I can speak instructions through the BT headset. However, I still need to reach for the iPhone to start the voice dialing process.

I did not have to do that with my Parrot BT car kit. I just tapped the green "call" button on the Parrot and it it triggered the iPhone's Voice Command. I did not have to touch the iPhone. If I held the call button down for a couple of seconds, it just redialed the last number called.
Will check my BT headset but this may just vary from headset to headset.

Hmmm...I was wondering whether that might be the case (that we might see different results with different BT devices). I have a few different BT headsets at home, including a Blueant and a Jabra. I'll give them a try this evening if I have time. In the meantime, EH, by any chance did you re-pair your Parrot with the iPhone after installing the 3.1 update?

Well, either I'm a moron (which is a definite possibility) or you need to unpair the BT headset and then re-pair it to get the BT to work. After reading your post, I decided to repair the Jawbone 2 so I first removed it from the iPhone, rebooted the iPhone, and then repaired the Jawbone 2. I then tried activating the voice control using the Jawbone 2's Talk button. That didn't work so I began wondering whether I wasn't using the Jawbone 2 properly. I took out the Quick Start Guide. Low and behold, reading the directions helped: It said that to initiate a call, you are supposed to press the Noise Assassin button (not the Talk button) for two seconds. Following those directions, I pressed the Noise Assassin button for two seconds. Low and behold, the voice control app chimed.
So, for the past year, I have lived without voice activated dialing. In the process, I seem to have totally forgotten how to use my Jawbone 2.
Although I'm embarassed and feel stupid about the whole thing, I'm glad that voice actuation through BT works the way it should.

Don't be so hard on yourself man. Easy mistake to make especially after not using it for so long.
BTW: It's not the first device to have this feature, but it's certainly the best I've used!
Apple certainly did not "invent" features like MMS, texting, cut and paste, etc., as some haters say Apple pats itself on the back for implementing. Apple has never taken credit for inventing these things. They revolutionized the way they are used into something stable, elegant, and simple. This is what ANGERS the self proclaimed tech guru's using other devices.
Sorry. That was a bit off topic, but I'm so tired of reading comments like that from Apple/iPhone haters in other blogs.

It may be obvious, but I would like to mention that the iPhone doesn't need to be unlocked in order to initiate VC over BT either. You can literally leave the iPhone in your pocket and make all your calls from your BT headset. So far it's been amazingly accurate.
