If you use Google Maps and you aren't connected to WiFi, then either the app will fail (no data available) or you'll incur charges for downloading the map data. If you use WiFi, no charges would show up, but Google Maps doesn't download all of the maps needed at once, so if you're using it as you're moving around, you'd need a constant WiFi connection.
