6700 and thera user -- thinking of Palm

I had a used Thera 5 years ago that I adored. It was a complicated and clunky thing but I had fun with it. About 3 years ago I upgraded to my 6700.

I loved it dearly.

But as the desktop computer in my house died, I replaced it with Vista. My 6700 has synced once with Vista. I've tried every trick but it just won't sync. I think I crashed and had to reinstall vista in this attempt. So, my quicken data and my schedule info can't sync to my phone. I'm lost without it.

I am in a sprint contract until Nov. I live in Kirksville MO. There is little next generation coverage here -- we're lucky to have analog coverage. Sprint is as bad or as good as any.

I canceled my data coverage a few months ago, used it incidentally while traveling, and found that I had $75 on this bill. Ooops. I think I'm going to add data back when I renew.

So, I'd love an HTC touch pro but it's expensive.
I'm considering a Palm Pro or a Pre.

I like to do social networking type stuff, check my bank account, text my family, play suduko, take a quick note, etc. I don't use a lot of memory with big games. I like to save my MP3s to my phone and play them through my car stereo. I really need a good PIM that I can sync with work and home computers.

I love touch screens. I need a physical qwerty keyboard. I'm very happy with the slide out keyboard on my 6700 and I don't know how well I will make the switch to the palm thumb board style.

But I'm also looking forward to a more slim phone. There are sometimes I get tired of the brick I have and think I need to move to something more compact. I'm in love with the LG Lotus as far as form goes. But I think I need a phone with more capabilities. I'm interested in other smart phones, not necessarily PDAs, but I don't know how much function they will have.

I tethered a little with my 6700 but never got the hang of it. I now own an XO from the OLPC project and would LOVE more than anything than to learn to tether with it.

So, should I go for the Pro, wait for the Pre, or shell out for the HTC Touch Pro? Or does someone have a great smart phone that I've overlooked?

Thanks
