I thought I would post this as a follow-up...
In the process of getting my info back on my phone I forgot that ActiveSync will create a new device ID,,, hence through a comedy of errors I ended with a bunch of dups in my Outlook... in fact because I failed to recognize the error of my ways the first time, I did it twice and have triplicates!... So off to google to look for duplicate removal tools and I found a few free ones.. here's a list that is posted at Slipstick Systems Exchange and Outlook Solutions Center... if you use Outlook you need to know about this site..
Duplicate Remover Tools for Outlook
Anyway.. This is what I did... I realized I didn't need a tool as I knew the duplicates were all created on specific days and I hadn't added any significant information since. So within Outlook Contacts I went to View and changed to Category view, then added the "Created" field to the column list (right click on the column headings). When I sorted by the Created field all the dups created on the same date were grouped together ... I moved them to another folder to make sure I got them all before deleting them... I repeated the process for the Tasks and calendar items..
