Everyone in this thread is a GOD.
i hunted all over google until i finally hit this thread. I was able to use my XP box to update to 6.1 (took two tries like most, and i d-loaded the installer today). Then since i have outlook on my vista box i have to sync with it. So i ripped active sync off of it, installed the latest wmdc, then just for laughs i installed the driver pack off of the samsung website. When i still couldnt connect i realized i the 6.1 upgrade changed my usb settings away from usb modem. changed that back and the device was FINALLY detected without the "unknown device" error i was getting. Then it still wouldnt sync, followed the thread and saw a hard reset is a good thing to do after the 6.1 upgrade. Right after the hard reset it connected to the wmdc right away.

like i said, you guys are awesome. Now ill be happily rocking my i760. I still cant get my email up on 6.1 (worked just fine on 6). but everything else is working now, tx to yall

(forgot to mention i WANTED to ask a question like 8 times, but i kept reading until i went through all 200+ posts. I'm a mod on a hyundai forum and i hate when people don't read the whole thing and ask already answered Q's heh.. as it turns out pretty much Everything was answered already heh)
