First, I want to thank Paul Hammons and all the other people who shared valuable information in this thread. I really wanted bigger buttons, so I'm very grateful.
To give back, I want to share what I've learned, and share the skin I made.
Things I learned:
Paul's program works perfectly on my Verizon XV6800. I even tested the 911 facility (sorry to the operator). Everything works. So this is not just for Sprint users - Verizon users, come and get it!.
In the new "big buttons" layout, the buttons on the Progress page are smaller than the buttons on the Dialer page. Paul had both using the Cmd buttons. This wasn't working well for my theme - the button bitmaps got truncated - so I created a new type of button (PrgBtn...) for my theme and made the necessary changes to the registry.
The version of phcanhtc.dll that is copied to my Windows directory when I uninstall Paul's program is not exactly the same as what was there originally. It's better. The original version had a bug that caused a problem with a utility I use called iLaunch. Now the problem is gone.
Paul - what did you fix?
My theme:
This theme uses the same color scheme as the default Verizon theme, which I like. It's clean - no extraneous bitmaps - because I like clean designs without extraneous doodads. I like things to be very functional and easy to read.
This theme lets the device write the text on the buttons (versus drawing it on the bitmaps) because that allows nice up/down versions of the buttons on the dialer page. I implemented both portrait and landscape modes.
I don't know if people will like my theme, but at least it shows that Paul's program works with Verizon devices.
To install:
1. Run Paul's BlueFrog_Touch_Dialer.cab from the first message in this thread. When it asks you to reboot, say "not yet" (cancel out).
2. Copy phoneskin_permutations.zip to someplace on your device and unzip it into the \PhoneSkin directory in the root of your device. Overwrite the files in there (you may want to back them up first).
3. Find phoneskin_permutations.reg in the \PhoneSkin directory and run it to copy the values into your device registry. You can delete it after you run it. I use Resco File Manager with the Registry and Zip extensions for all this.
4. Now soft reset your device.
Screenshots of the theme are below. I couldn't figure out how to post thumbnails. How do you do that?
