I am not sure that you understand how the program works. It turns your phone into a wifi hotspot. Once you install the cab files you just turn it on. My laptop sees it and connects. No need to set up modem connections, VZAccess software, or Active Sync/WMDC (depending on your tethering method).
Yes it does eat up battery but I never use it long and I am usually driving in between offices so the phone is always charging while I drive. To me that is the only disadvantage. The nice part are the times when I am in a meeting with someone we both have an internet connection.
