Most people, including myself want tethering when there is no wifi connection available. Any laptop today most likely comes with a wifi adapter.

I tethered my Q with Verizon, but I'm going to give pdanet and the usb charging cable a go. I've seen alot of good feedback on both.

The alternative with Verizon is okay, one good thing for me when I needed it in the past was that it could be activated and de-activated with a phone call, therefore avoiding a constant $15 per month charge if you didn't need it.
