I have a family plan. Just used my ne2 to upgrade without changing my plan. I got the advanced device credit. I just did it online and offered the credit. You can do a dry run without obligation. Choose the phone and it will offer you options, e.g. insurance, text plans and a data plan. If you choose the unlimited, it gives you the Advanced Device Credit. It doesn't require any monkeying with your voice plan.
