There is a link to 6800 hacks on post #105 by rsohne a page back.
First Impression on the 6800.
This is a great power phone. I may be a little bias having had success with the 6700. My only draw back and problem with this phone is the GPS locator has been disabled by verizon, which makes programs like Google maps not locate you on the map. This was stupid on Verizons part as there other phones have this enabled. Though i understand that there may be a fix in the upcoming Rom update. (hope?) For those who don't have this phone yet, either wait for the rom update or do a test comparison(actual phone test) from verzion first before you invest. Aside from the GPS Locator this is still a great phone. I have had this phone for about two weeks now and have put the phone through a heavy program test without doing any hacks or tweaks yet.(I will)
What I did!
I loaded the phone with all of the programs I used on my 6700. All of them ran faster and smoother. My programs you ask?
1. SlingMobile Player> program for streaming my home DVR & Satellite TV on my phone. Video and streaming was faster and smoother on the 6800 vs 6700.
2. PdaNet> program to tether laptop to phone for Internet connection. this program was worth the purchase price as it connected my laptop to the net through my phone in one step flawlessly. (usb or bluetooth) I did not have to tweak, modify or go through a lot of steps just to connect to the net.
3. Memory Maid> program to clean and recover memory used by the phone.
so far this program was more needed by the 6700 than my 6800. Even though the 6800 has more memory, I still see a use for it has it cleans the temp folder and others in one to two steps.
4. WM6 Remote Desktop> remote control my home or work computer! oh yes flawless.
5. Windows Media Player> watching movies and playing music, again much faster than the 6700.
6. Registry Editors: Kilmist & RegEditCE runs fine, though i haven't changed anything yet.
7. Microsoft game pack as well as a host of other 3rd party game played with no problems.
8. Google Maps & MSN Live worked great, except the GPS locator disabled by Stupid Verizon. (again this really ticks me off.)
9. Pocket Dictionary> great.
10. IM messengers: Palringo, EQO, Agile(cost) and Slick are great. Palringo is beta but very impressive.
11. Pocket Bible
Hardware/Accessories
1. Motorola S9 behind the ear Stereo Bluetooth Headset. I had to mod the 6700 to get these to work. I've tested alot of bluetooth devices. this beats them all, hands down. Flawsless connection. excellent sound and performance especially for my SlingMobile and Windows Media player
2. Extended Battery pack.> needed as the wifi switch consumes battery. And I am on the net alot. watching my tv on the road.(can't go without it).
Overall a great power house device. This phone has been compared alot to the Samung i760. again, I may be bias as I had and loved the 6700. I had a treo and some other pda's and played alot with the i760 at the store. I never liked phones with the number/keypad on the front so that already killed it for me. the 6800 has more memory than the i760, important for me has i use alot of programs.
I would recommend the 6800 after the rom update though, or if the GPS locator is not that important to you.
My grade on a scale of 1 - 5, 5 being Awesome is a 4.5 I Love it and would not trade it yet.
