On the phone with a PDA/Smartphone specialist from Verizon. I just went over with her the specs of the SMT5800/HTCLibra/PLS5800. The phone was
NOT manufactured with the capabilities to support wi-fi. I just read the owner manual from UT Startcom and there is no mention of wi-fi. Unless there is something out there I do not know, I think this should put to rest any wi-fi disputes concerning the phone.
I was advised that phonescoop.com was the best website to refer to when finding information regarding PDA/Smartphones. The user manual for the 5800 can be found at:
UTStarcom

Ok, I am very confused. Look at these websites:
HTC S730 - a stylish and compact smartphone
HTC
UTStarcom
Verizon Wireless SMT5800
None of these phones are the same...and that means that Verizons SMT5800 is neither an HTC710/730 nor is it a PLS5800. Anyone out there have a clue as to what phone this is? I am waiting to hear back from the PDA specialists I spoke with earlier. I will update when I hear back from her.

Ok, I still havent spoken with Verizon yet, but I think I have it figured out. I downloaded the user manual from the UTStarcom website, and it is exactly the same as the one from Bellwireless's website. However the 5800 from Bellwireless, which is named the HTC5800 and listed on HTC's website, not only looks different than the PLS5800 on UTStarcom's website, but it is also made by UTStarcom! It would seem that both UTStarcom and HTC are getting their phones from the same place and making minor changes to the looks of the phone. Well I am sure this has further confused some because I still dont fully understand this...
Either way I think it is pretty clear that the phone was not manufactured to have wi-fi so lets not blame the wireless carriers.
*Last Edit* (I hope)
I am almost 100% the phone Verizon will launch is the HTC5800. The HTC5800 is neither a HTCS710/720/730, HTC Libra, nor PLS5800. The HTC5800 was
manufactured without wi-fi and its specs can be viewed here:
HTC: Products: HTC 5800 (Bell) Features & Specs
This should end all confusion concerning the phone.
