I did everything above (correctly as far as I know) - got the TCMP plugin etc., but any time I try to play an iTunes configured video it seems like the i730 can't handle it. It stutters and pauses and will not play smoothly. I just think there is too much processing necessary. Please someone let me know if I should give it another try.

I would just transcode the video via MediaCoder - more than a universal audio/video transcoder
Fantastic conversion open source app. I'm attaching the preset I use for converting video for the i730. If someone has a better configuration please share it.
