Hi All.
I am new to the sight, but thought you all might like to hear a story related to the release of the XV6800. Prior to Monday I had not so much as heard of the XV6800. I went into a Verizon Store to look at the i760 because my "New Every Two" date is Thursday. While I was examining it, a sales person came up to me and told me "That phone is a piece of crap, you don't want to buy it" I figured at first it was an up-sell strategy so I played along and asked him what was better.
He told me that there was a new phone coming out in "the next couple of weeks" which would be better suited to be a PPC replacement (I currently use both a PPC and a Cell) I pushed him a little harder and he told me about the "VX6800" phone. His knowledge of the phone was sketchy and said I was better of checking the web for details as he was not "Officially Trained" yet. He then went on to explain that the managers get a 2 week notice of pending releases, and he had seen a memo about the phone being shipped to stores on November 7th. He also said that the stores were expecting them about a week later and then they would be trained on them sometime between the 13th and the 15th. The Phones would then be made available to the public on the 16th, but more likely for "Black Friday" because that was the "Official Start" of thier holiday sales. For those of you not familiar with Black Friday...it is what retail stores call the day after Thanksgiving.
He told me that I should call the store on the 16th to see if it was in. He took my number and said if it came in before then he would let me know but in the mean time he gave me his card and wrote down on the back of it HTC VX6800 and told me to search the web to get more info on the phone. Needless to say, the search urned out results for the "XV6800" which I assume is the samething and the sales person just transposed the letters as most verizon cells are VX not XV.
All I can tell you is that this is what happend to me Monday at a Verizon Store (not some knock off reseller). The guy could have been making the whole thing up for all I know, but since the motive should have been to sell me something as I live no where near that store, I can't see why he would.
with fingers crossed, all I can do is wait.
