Mine didn't start recording, but it did bring up the Record option in the notes. I am trying to replicate it again.
I did some digging, and if other people want to try here is what I found out.
There is a "hotvoice.exe" icon in the \windows\ directory that should be the voice recorder. It needs to be tied to a button to record, from what I have seen.
With Shortcuts, there are a few:
24#:MSHOTVOICE
That is in one of the .lnk files, which refers to MS's RAI files, and in the registry "MSHOTVOICE" points to "hotvoice.exe -q". I have also built a .lnk file to point directly to "\windows\hotvoice.exe -q", but it didn't work either.
The shortcut in the \windows\appbuttons\ folder is the "24#:MSHOTVOICE", but since it was included in the app, copying it to the \windows\start menu\programs\ directory allowed it to launch.
OK, scratch all this... I got it to work...
Do this. First go to \windows\appbuttons\ and copy the Record file. Go to \Windows\Start Menu\Programs\ and paste it in that folder.
Now go to Buttons in the Settings area and assign to Button 3 (the envelope icon on the slide out keyboard. With it assigned, and back on the today screen, do a soft reset.
After the soft reset the button will work as directed, holding it down will let you record a voice note... I know it's not it's own button, but this is at least a use for the envelope, and it is a button that doesn't allow a LONG press through the OS, which is probably why it works.
It's better than not having a button....
