Yes, I've posted a couple of things about Symbol in the past. MOT bought Symbol last fall (a potentially shrewd move). While Symbol doesn't really make devices most of us would want--and apparently has no CDMA portfolio at all--these guys probably know more about WM than all of the rest of MOT. This comes about because Symbol is an integrated data capture solutions operation. Their apps have to work!

If MOT had its act together (which hasn't been the case for at least 18-24 mos), it would lean on Symbol to design the "i760" we all want, and then turn over production and marketing to MOT's traditional operation. This is how MOT could blow off HTC at the high end. For instance, everyone knows that Symbol devices are bulletproof--just ask a package express driver.

Meanwhile, who got the US gov contract for the Census Bureau's handhelds for 2010? HTC. (Census undercount guaranteed!)

equus found a pretty good quick review of the Symbol MC70. Again, it's not what we want--and fairly pricey at that--but it's closer to being a "system" (as Symbol devices always are) than any other vendor's product line.

Incidentally, the other major "data capture" terminal house is Intermec Technologies.

Intermec Supply Chain Solutions & Inventory Tracking: RFID, Handheld Computers, Printers, Scanners
Wow great info and yes I believe that is the very Symbol LIKE device I was wanting to look at! Thank you! The Intermec mobile handheld CN3 I believe was the one on that list.

in reading what you said here, thats what I have in the back of my mind when I look at a device like that or the MC70 is that these people are actually using faster processors, have an complete edge in terms of durability/ruggedness, and they just seem really innovative in being able to integrate a complex amount of other functions, that it seems like these guys would be the kind of people I would love to buy a Pocket PC from. Very pricey yes, and I wouldn't buy anything that pricey unless I had extra cash I wanted to burn, but if they focused their talents on a Pocket PC w CDMA voice and or a nice Worldphone w CDMA and GSM voice functions I think they would KILL the competition with it.

Like, if they did a SGH i760 body with the newest fastest/most powerful processor, with the variety of 3G/EVDO internet speeds, WIFI, w an option for an internal camera (2 mp or above) and or cam for webcam (2 or 3 models one without a camera(s), one with a camera, and one with a camera an bar scanner?), good battery life, and a good amount of internal memory (perhaps closer to what the iPhone has, but give people options for how many GBs they want or just keep it w high GB capabillity) expandable memory card slot(s), IR, and the potential to add bar scanner add on capabilities if need be, that phone would totally rock!

It would consume not only the Pocket PC market in general because of its thinness and functionality, but also typical corporate markets, and the market that would be into Symbol scanning functionality .The phone would be stable and work like you said because they seem to know what they're doing and HAVE to.

This may be the list I was looking at in this thread...but I think it had more phones to choose from:

NewsBYTES :: Feb/Mar 2007.

I'm thinking it may have gotten deleted because it didn't have the i760 listed in it. Or perhaps it was one of these:
