equus,

Intriguing comments and we look forward to your timely release...from "Club Fed"--at which point you may be able to shed more "RF" on the subject of Rev A (or lack thereof) for the i760.

Still, if the i760, as tested and submitted to the FCC, was missing QCOM Rev A, an ECO (engineering change order) to substitute upgraded silicon (however modular its installation) would appear to require at least a "Permissive Change" application, and probably more. We've seen no evidence of supplementary FCC paperwork (although it could be cloaked by the ever-twisted confidentiality provision).

Given that VZW has announced "completion" of the Rev A rollout, Rev A-capable devices are now a very big deal. The i760 would be far less competitive--and have a much shorter marketability life--without Rev A.

Even more to the point, no new PPCs/smartphones should appear without Rev A capability, as nobody can be expected to tolerate less (all data subscribers are paying for Rev A). The Rev A hook is analogous to the bling of WinMo 6.

And on a technical level, it's not so much for the d/l speed as it is for the uplink speed, lower latency, and (hopefully) VZW's implementation on Rev A of simultaneous voice and data.

Not asking you to reply at this time, but we're standing by for news...

P.S.

maxnix,

Nah, little, if any, price Delta for Rev A. Consider HTC's x6800 (Sprint Mogul) as a reference. It's $399.99 w/Rev A hardware (waiting to be enabled). Objective analysis suggests the i760 is a lesser animal, albeit better-built. Fair value at release: $299.99/2-yr. If VZW doesn't get this, the sucking sound you'll hear will be..."Kaiser Churn."
