New 5 & 6-Tab HTC Home Plugins from Kaiser - *UPDATED*

UPDATE - New 5 and 6 Tab Versions Released - Notification Queue and Profile Bugs Reported Fixed

UPDATE: This thread is a little dated now that the HTC Home Customizer is more mature. I would highly suggest you go that route as it will simplify the process and add a lot more tweakability to your home plugin. Plus it will work with WM5 devices as well as WM6.

-----------------------
11/27/07 - Did your weather stop updating recently? Here's the Fix.
If you are using an older version of N2A's patched HTC Home Plugin then your weather stopped updating recently. You need a new version from the thread linked below.

HTC Homeplug Weather fix - get your LOCAL weather! [New OEM packages added!] - xda-developers

Another option that worked for me was to delete the registry key below and then soft reset. The key below is created by older versions of N2A's modded HTC Home Plug to redirect weather to his server rather than accuweather's. If your city is not already in htc.accuweather.cm then you must download a new version.

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\Tcpip\Hosts\htc.accuweather.com]
"ipaddr"=hex:40,3E,9E,6C
-----------------------
HTC Home Plugin Customizer - This is my favorite way to go. Emunutz over at ppcgeeks improved on the A La Cart version by building a menu system around its settings. You can backup your settings, change the icons, download custom backgrounds, icons, clock fonts and more and more. I would highly suggest you check it out.

Update: Download the 1.0 beta 5 (or whatever is newest) from THIS LINK. This is the newer .net version that works much better than his earlier mortscript versions. Use the link above for instructions on usage.

6-Tab Version - Should fix the profile and notifications bugs

5-Tab Version - Modified version of 6-tab linked above, but with no "Profiles" Tab. More responsive and also fixes notification and profiles bug.

A La Cart Version - This version allows you to choose which tabs you want diplayed and what order they appear in. (thanks for the heads up 92GTA)

------------------------------------------------------------------
Install Instructions
(These instructions are needed if you don't go the easy route with the home customizer)
  1. Download the version you want from my links above or from the main thread at XDA.
  2. Uninstall any old version you have and reboot.
  3. Install the new version
  4. Reboot
Changes over old 3-Tab version:
  1. Contacts Tab that allows you to add 9 contacts
  2. Ringer Profile Tab (6-Tab version only) that allows you choose between Normal, Silent, Vibrate and Automatic The automatic profile looks in your calendar for appointments. If you have an appointment at the moment it switches to vibrate, if you have nothing in your calendar, it switches to loud again .
  3. Music Tab that lets you control your WMP or HTC Audio Manager (if installed) to play music.

Adding Your City to the Weather Tab
  • First go to http://htc.accuweather.com/widget/htc/forecast-data_v3.asp?ac=TR2cra9U&locCode=NAM|US|TX|PLANO and change the TX and PLANO to your city and state. If it comes up then your city can be added. If it does not give you a long detailed display like the Plano link does then your city is not in the htc.accuweather.com database. You will need to try a different city or check out the next section.
  • Copy the \Windows\HH_0409_WeatherCities.xml to somewhere you can access it from your PC and make a backup as well.
  • Open it with Notepad and add your city in using the format below. It must be in alphabetical order with the other cities in the list. You can also delete out the cities you don't want.
    <city name="Plano, US" loca="NAM|US|TX|PLANO" land="United States"/>
  • Once modified, save and copy it back to the \Windows directory on your phone. Reboot and then try to change your city and it should be listed.
If your city is not listed, but a nearby one is, you can use this to your advantage. For example, let's say I live it Faketown, TX which is right outside of Dallas and it not listed in at htc.accuweather.com. I could put the following entry which would display "Faketown" as the city name but would actually be pulling data for Dallas.

<city name="Faketown, US" loca="NAM|US|TX|DALLAS" land="United States"/>

NOTE: Do NOT use the HH_0409_WeatherCities.xml from the old 3-Tab HTC Home plug. The location formatting has changed.

My City is Not in the HTC.Accuweather.com Database. What can I do?

Check out this thread over at XDA (thanks alsobob). Basically, this guy got around the problem by having you alter your host file and trick your phone into going to another IP address when it queries htc.accuweather.com. Check it out and give it a try.

Changing Degrees to Fahrenheit
  • Open the weather tab
  • Click the City Name to bring up the weather options menu
  • Click Menu-> Weather Options and change it to Fahrenheit.

Music Tab
  • You can use the HTC Audio Manager or the built in Windows Media Player for the music tab. You must change the registry entry below to choose between the two. If you change the registry value, a soft reset may be needed before it takes effect.

    HKLM\Software\HTC\Music Plug-In\
Change the "MusicPlayer" value to 1 for WMP or 2 for the HTC Audio Manager
  • HTC Audio Manager Download - RapidShare: 1-Click Webhosting
  • Click the link on the music tab and then click the wording "Launch Music Player" which will launch the music manager you chose above. Play your song(s) and click "ok" which will take you back to the home screen and the music tab will then work. Basically the music tab accesses your music player that you have running in the background.
  • When a call comes in, it will pause the music. When you hang up it starts playing again.

To add the color icons do the following (taken from XDA)
  • Use this modified 6-tab version created by Colonel over at ppcgeeks.com. Note that this version appears to have the notification and profiles bug. I would suggest you download the normal version and manually copy the color icons yourself (described below)
PPCGeeks.com :: View topic - NEW HTC homeplug off kaiser.
OR
  • Download the "New HTC Plugin ICONS ( RapidShare )" file to your PC and extract the folder
  • Copy the folder to your Memory card.
  • Close the HTC Home Plugin by unticking the box in settings/items
  • Open the folder to reveal all the files.
  • Select all and copy to \HTCHome. If this directory does not exist, then you have a version that needs to be extracted to the \windows directory.
  • You will have to manually replace all the files as they appear.

Transparent Icon Set
  • Follow the same directions as above for the color icons.
