I'm not seeing any reception issues so far. I haven't lost a call or had poor sound quality. When I was recently at Lake Powell the only two carriers in the area were Cingular and Verizon, and we had much stronger service with Cingular (via roaming on our T-Mobile MDAs). Verizon worked marginally (via roaming on a Sprint phone).

I think every carrier has strong and weak areas, so there's not reality in saying one is worse or better nationwide.
