For starters, the home screens on Smartphones consist of two main parts -the background image and the XML file. The XML file manages the content of the home screen and calls various modules and applets as defined and also defines the colors, positions, and other properties found on the home screen. The XML files can easily be edited in any text editor (notepad) or in an application like MS FrontPage (where the XML can be viewed and formatted easily) but it does require a bit of knowledge to understand what is going on. If an improperly edited XML file is transferred to the smartphone, it won't even show up in the Display Settings dialog, as there is a check of some kind that validates the XML files.
Secondly, editing the registry of a smartphone is very similar to editing any Windows registry, except that MS didn't provide a native regedit tool. You will need to find a third-party tool such as PHM Registry Editor for Smartphones and will also probably want to application unlock your Blackjack so that the regedits will be certain to "stick."
Long answer, but I hope it helps to point you in the right direction.
