The newest Mortplayer or Pocket Music both have equalizers that can really minimize the distortion. I pick a song with the worst distortion and then I just bring the 1st 3 treble sliders down maybe 1 or 2 steps with Mortplayer to minimize but not remove all the distortion and then save the settings. With the presets in the Lubix I can usually find 1 of the settings that will bring the sound back close to the original or at least to the point where it still sounds really good.
You really should try the Widcomm stack though, if only to hear how good the sound really can be, except the occasional skip. Worst case,as I've never heard of anyone bricking their phone, you hard reset and reinstall your apps.
